    Default Hit a log today

Hit a log under the surface of the water today. Anything over idle the boat shutters real bad so we idled back to the ramp. I assume new prop needed. If I’m buying one, any advice?

Thinking I’ll send this one out to get repaired and have a spare if it’s not too bad. Haven’t even looked at it yet

Be sure to inspect your strut, shaft & rudder as well.

If you plan on running extra weight, now would be a good opportunity to reprop and save the repaired as your spare.

It’s time for the break in checkup at the dealer.

Forgot some details. Brand new Makai dropping it off for the break in oil change tonight.

Will the shaft rudder and strut be obvious if there’s damage? Any recommendations on a prop?

Looked everything over pretty good. It appears the prop is all that got damaged. And only the end of one of the blades really. Thankful it wasn’t worse and all we had to do was idle back to the ramp.

Anyone have prop suggestions for makai with the 400?

    Depends on several factors...

    Motor
    Primary Activity
    Elevation
    RPMs under max load
    Max Ballast

Wakemakers has a Propfinder online utility to help but I directly reached out directly to ACME with my specifics to get my recent recommendation to move to a 2937 15x11 in my Craz.

    My spec sheet says OJ 945 15 x 13 4 blade.

Max speed is ~38 mph right now. Today, prior to the incident with the log I filled ballast (4,000 lbs) getting ready to surf. I did have a heavy load with 9 hefty adults and 2 kids, guessing right around 2,000 lbs of people and it would not plane. I would say I was abnormally heavy today and have not had any issues with power prior to today with power.

Long story short I “think” I’m ok with the prop I had but if there’s something else out there I’m all ears.

    Thanks in advance guys.

Btw...I joined the board with a new max on order just prior to covid but when the factory shut down I made a great deal on the Makai in exchange for what I had ordered....hence my screen name Max 20. In case anyone was wondering.

1 more thing - it surfed awesome with the heavy load. Wave was huge! Under normal circumstances with 1/2 the people weight I am able to surf wonderfully without the rope with factory ballast. I do not see me adding lead or additional bags in the future.

    Is it a 19 or a 20 Makai?

To answer the questions. I’m not sure what elevation Cincinnati is, but it’s not way above sea level. I have the 400 motor and I would say primarily our activity is surfing. I do pull the kids on a wakeboard but do not run any ballast - they’re still young and don’t need a huge wave to ramp. I’m early 40’s and have no desire to catch huge air on a wakeboard whatsoever but I do LOVE to surf.
