All the surf systems accomplish basically the same thing, create drag. This drag makes the boat crab sideways through the water and essentially makes one side of the boat longer than the other, thus making the wave converge on the short side. If you add a device at the transom that has vertical fins digging in, I would think it would counteract that crab motion.

All that said, it's just theory
That's exactly what Mastercraft did with their Gen2, and SC did with autoflow 2.0 tabs. The drop fins actually work by keeping more water channeled under the tab for a longer period of time, increasing their effectiveness. They also reduce spray from the tab.

So if I'm trying to duplicate the larger size of the new tabs, the drop fins will help me do this. In addition, if I can reduce turbulence of the water coming off the plate I will have a cleaner wave.

If it doesn't work, I can just unbolt it and I'm only out $28.
