Great idea after doing some research I might have one made like the one below. My buddy has the Malibu plastic tray and it works great except for being shallow. Think you might be able to make it deeper to hold a few life vests.

That looks like it's a disaster waiting to happen... Take a look at the motor right around that white dangling rope. See all the turning parts?

I spent 75$ on the 1/2" board and 15$ on aluminum angles. drilled two holes in the back corners for water too go out. this adds alot of space!
