no power at amp
My brother inlaw installed a JBL 160 watt amp in his new pontoon last night. He had several open slots in his fuse panel under the dash. He hooked it up and had no power to the amp. We double checked the hot and ground wires even jumping them straight to the battery... nothing. Bad amp?? Or are we missing something?

You can see my wiring at:

I did 4Aug wires straight off the battery. I assume he has the power on wire coming from the head unit plugged in?2003 Mobius LSV Gravity Games

power wire from HU? The HU runs to it's own slot in the fuse panel... it was powering up fine. I think his power and ground wire were 12gauge on the amp.

For my amp, they suggested 4 Aug wire. About 3 bucks a foot. Also, in order to turn the amp on I have a small wire which goes from the Head unit to the amp. If there is any trickle of power on that line then the power then it turns on. if this is your amp:

That's the one... so I need to power the REM as well as the 12+. Does that explain why when we ran the pos / neg directly to battery it didn't turn on? Excuse my audio ignorance. Helps to read the instructions... we were to busy reading the ingredients on our Modelo.

Yes, the REM is in effect your on/off switch. Insted of a real swich, it uses a wire from the head unit. When the HU goes on, so does the AMP. On my head unit, there was a blue wire in the back which was the remote on wire. Disconnect the power, conect the blue wire to the amp at REM, and when you power on you should be good.

It's like a woman. Connecting the power is not enough. You still gotta find a way to flip the switch to turn her on.

Little wine, little music, nice dinner, oh, and hook up that blue wire.
So when is this "old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?
