I noticed from the pics that you didn't cover the slanted section of the fiberglass at the end/bottom -- was that by design? Did you foresee any issues with covering that section as well? Or maybe that was the smaller pad that you showed in a previous post in this thread and you decided not to install that?

That's correct, I had a smaller pad cut, I just haven't put it on yet; still undecided if I want that there.

I just don't like the look of clamps, too much "afterthought" - I've always removed the clamp and bolted the quick release directly to the tower, in my opinion it gives a cleaner more "factory" look.
Factory racks; when I ordered they hadn't yet released the bulletin on the swivel malfunction, so that was a concern, but moreover I also don't like the way they look. I wanted an all black rack, and the factory racks only have black rubber dipped forks. They also have pointed edges that I don't like. The monster racks have a nice lever instead of pin, and are all black.2013 Outback V
