2022 Sound Proofing

Hope this isn't beating a dead horse but...working on getting some sound deadening into our 2019 Makai (has surf pipe) and this thread seemed most logical. Would appreciate any thoughts, ideas, general comments, or flat-out ridicule (haha).

So the biggest issue we seem to notice is that v-drive "whine" that this video shows youtube video shows in this thread: https://forum.moomba.com/showthread....ound+deadening

I think the biggest issue, at least for my Makai, is there is zero sound deadening in it now, other than the carpet on the firewall and the seats. Just bare fiberglass on the trans tunnel and above the engine. The trans tunnel and top of the engine seem to be almost no-brainer places to add deadening (I did the tray instead of the compartment cover). There is just bare fiberglass in those areas that won't stop any sound and may amplify it. Here is my thought though, looking for input: the sound can be stopped at the end of the gas tank, just in front of the trans tunnel cover. The gas tank blocks most of the vertical space, so applying deadener materials directly to the back side, seems logical, also placing foam around the side of gas tank to contain the sound there, and in so, not having to do the entire floor panel. It would stop the sound there instead of allowing it to travel up into the front of the boat. I am trying a 3 step method, not as hard as it sounds. 1st layer, 120 mil butyl, 2nd is 157 mil closed cell foam, and final is b-quiet high-density acoustic foam. Seems to stick well. Next is the engine divider panels and the underside of the fiberglass that supports the rear transom walk-thru.Attachment 30814Attachment 30815Attachment 30816

Go look at post #53 and 61. I have a 2021 Makai, so should be same setup as yours. The trans cover made the biggest difference. Make sure to cover the gaps on the sides. I also did the bottom side of the gas tank cover panel (floor of the boat).
