Sure, you can hotlink through a photo site like Imgur. Upload pic to Imgur, then copy the image direct link URL, then press the insert pic button, choose "from URL", then paste the hyperlink and uncheck the 'retrieve file and reference locally' box.

But if you're willing to do the typing on your phone, then it's a lot easier to have tapatalk do the hosting and hotlinking of the pics, cutting out the middle man.
Because when you "upload" a photo via tapatalk, you're really uploading it to the tapatalk servers and it's creating a slick hotlink to display your image embedded into your post. I just did the same thing, but I used a 3rd party imaging hosting site (which tapatalk is actually also a 3rd party site) and then used the URL to embed it in my post.
