Both pieces started with the cutting boards that were 15" x 20" but I think the gate itself might do a bit better if it was longer.

At $9 a piece, I was thinking my next move would be to just double up the boards and bolts them together as I can't find anything in either 3/4" or 1" that comes in under $20...

    Hey Mike,
Any update on your surf gate, pics of your design and the wave it is producing, anything you would have done differently??

    Default RMK818-Single ghetto Gate

You can see pics of my gates earlier in the thread.

As for the wave, I can tell that it's better but not remarkably so. I'd say like a 30-40% improvement. My biggest gain is that I can fill both rear sacs and not have to drain and fill every time we switched from the regular to the goofy side.

Not much I would do differently except to use a somewhat thicker material as both of my gates broke in the same place but have been fine since I doubled up on the cutting board used on the piece that's up against the transom.

Looks nice and long, but not much height...if I was you I would go to either the 750, 900 or 1100 sacs in the rear and that should help the height considerably. (shameless plug)....if you decide to go with the 750s I have two used ones in the classifieds for sale that could really help!!

That should actually say 2,400 lbs ballast. 800 in each locker, 400 in the floor and 550 IBS. I need to get pics of my gate, so far I only have time invested. My goal was to build one for both regular and goofy.

Thanks Mike, I did see your earlier thread and you did mentioned going thicker, I will try to find 3/4 or 1 inch thick board, sivs1 I am pretty much same set up, 08 LSV, with 650 nose 400 centre 1100 reg, and 750 goofy side, looks like I will have more than enough weight when I build a gate......I will watch for your Ghetto gate pics and the wave you are getting...Thanks again to both for your comments and imput.. Moomba family so helpfull and helping to save $$$$$

Here is version 1. There are still some issues but the void it creates tells me it's doing something. I have the stock platform. I need to add something between the hull and the gate to prevent spray. All 3/4 inch plywood and 2x4, wrapped in marine vinyl I had laying around.

ok thanks, does not look like you are using an eye bolt or ratcheting it to the boat.....have you tried to put it on while out on the water?? our routine, is kids get to tube first, wakeboard runs then surfers at the end....would have to put it on a few hours into the day on the water.... I will try the wood one first then transfer the design to HDPE after....
