Its not an overly heady speaker, so if the deck is thick and theres enough meat for the screws to bite, I think they would work, but I would still look at something better then just using the traditional wood screws. Backing plate, machine screws with nylock nuts and washers, etc. Having the mounting hole a snug fit to the basket helps support the weight. With an existing 6" hole, you dont have that advantage.
Hello guys - this should clear up any confusion. First - The SX65M is definitely different than the SX65C. The M is the revised version for Marine. It deviates from the past design with a coincident mounted tweeter, sealed mid-bass driver, upgraded tweeter, different crossover network, and sprayed corrosion emulsifier on the basket and cone. It replaced the C version a year ago.

Anyway - Here's a couple of photos for you that show basket cut out and hole location. Berg from what you've said about your hole cut outs, I think your literally "cutting" it close in using a standard speaker like the SX65M. I know you mentioned NBA Car Audio doing your install. If thats the case, I wouldn't worry about it because they are install gods and can do anything you want. Heres a couple of shots for reference.

Min cut out. We usually tell people 5" so it gives some clearance room for terminals.
