Sea Doos???
Ok guys... I have a friend that has recently had a death in the family... long story short there are 2 Sea Doos he wants to sell... my inlaws want to get them but I wanted to get some idea of what they should be looking at before buying.
1. They are stored on a covered lift
2. He doesn't know if they were winterized or not.
3. Do you even need to do that to those?
4. How could we go about getting them ready for a test ride if they were winterized?
5. Is there an hour meter on them like boats?
Thanks, Casey
P.S. I hate idiots on Sea Doos, not the Sea Doos themselves'08 Mobius LS. Sold

1. They are stored on a covered lift
FANTASTIC
2. He doesn't know if they were winterized or not.
NOT REALLY NECESSARY IF THEY ARE NEWER MODELS
3. Do you even need to do that to those?
NOPE, BUT I LIKE TO CHANGE OIL & FILTER, PUT BATTERY ON A TRICKLE CHARGER AND FOG THE CYLINDERS
4. How could we go about getting them ready for a test ride if they were winterized?
PUT THE KEY IN, CHECK FOR GAS AND PUSH THE START BUTTON
5. Is there an hour meter on them like boats?
MOST NEWER MODELS WILL HAVE THEM. DIGITAL READOUTS WITH A MENU THAT YOU CAN SCROLL THRU TO SEE HOURS, RPM, MPH, DIRECTION, TIMER, ETC

I would like to pick one up on the cheap to use midweek to pitch a tent on a campsite for the long weekends. pita to launch the boat for a 30 minute job. they are fun when used properly..
amazing how much gas you can use on some of the larger 3person ones in a day tho. almost as much as my boat..'06 Supra Launch 20SSV-gone but never forgotten

To add to Drew's comments, make sure there is oil as well before starting...most likely not premix models unless fairly old, but I'm guessing they are 2-strokes. You can do compression checks on the cylinders as well...can probably find allowable range of numbers online based on the model/engine.
Farther North than Texas winterizing is typically done...flush engine with antifreeze, make sure pipe is free of water, fog engine, etc...not always necessary, but cracked blocks do happen.2008 Outback V

Just doing what I can.
Get some more details like year & model.
I have a love/hate relationship with ours. I love to ride it. It's kinda like my water motorcycle and my 4 yr old son loves to ride with me. The entire time he screams "faster, Daddy!"
I hate it when morons decide to jump my wake and/or follow my kids when they are boarding or surfing. It's amazing how easy it is to profile an idiot sea doo operator. On our lake it usually goes like this:
fat dude in the orange, around the neck, US Coast Guard life vest on a 80's-era jetski is an idiot
old, bald man who stares at the houses on shore is an idiot
blond, teenage girls usually end up being idiots. I will have 2 of these soon and am training them to not be idiots.

Ok... I will be looking at them with my Brother in law... I reckcon I will be looking for freeze plugs / disconnected hoses, etc... check oil, then testride.

good call there, Bob. However, I'm not sure Sea Doo has had any 2-strokes for awhile (maybe since 2002 or 2003), but I could easily be mistaken. Maybe some of the high performance ones are? I think Kawasaki & Yamaha may still have some oil-injected models.
This is a fun site to look at some of the colors on the old machines:

Ah, knew I was probably wrong! Actually read thru some of that and the 2 strokes were put to rest in 2007, but were in limited models prior to that.
