Boat storage, garage doors and size
What boat do you have and what size garage bay and door are you sqeezing your boat into?
We are looking to upgrade our boat in the near future and have the opportunity to make some changes to the garage while we take on some construction projects at the lake house.
We want to do our best to not let the garage limit our wake boat buying options.

if able to work it in, my ideal garage door would be 10ft tall which should future proof you for most any. 10 or 12ft on a single side width or standard 16ft if double.
have had to squeeze a z3 in a 9ft wide and only did it once. never again...'06 Supra Launch 20SSV-gone but never forgotten

I sure wish my 10ft door was 12ft tall so I wouldn't have to drop the tower down to pull it in and out. But happy it still fits. Ours is also 10ft wide, tight on the guideposts and better make sure racks are spun in, but easily doable, 12ft wide would add more room for error.

We store our boat in an enclosed storage unit. Door width is 12’ which gives adequate room to maneuver. We store our SA with the tower down, but it is nice to have the height afforded by the 16’ tall doors to raise the tower inside while needed. I would go no less than 34’ depth, allowing for trailer tongue length and platform length, and walk around room. We have 30’, with tongue folded and trailer as far forward as possible, we’ve got about 6’ of storage space behind the boat plus walking path.

12ft wide and 10ft tall gives you easy access to back your boat in- just built a garage with those size opening and works great.
Garage doors taller that 10ft look odd, unless it’s an industrial building.
Maybe off topic, but I would always put a 18ft wide door on a house garage.2021 Moomba Max

I was storing my mondo in my grandfathers garage which had a 24x 18 door. No need to drop tower on that one. My garage build has 2 12 ft wide x 10 ft tall doors so I should be able to slide in there just fine.

Thanks for the input guys, keep it coming. We currently store our Tige 22v in a 28' deep nominal garage bay at the lake house by sqeezing it thru a 9' X 8' garage door. The swim platform is against the back wall and we can just close the door in front of the non-folding trailer tongue. We can reasonably pull out the door header and put in a 10' X 8'-6" garage door by replacing the header with a steel beam. With a bunch of work, I could get in an 8'-9" tall door. I plan to put the existing header from the door on the back wall such that I can bump out on the back side of the garage bay.

in the end:
28ft length will fit most anything you look at with swing tongues today.
8ft height will limit you to a half dozen boats. it was our old garage and we only had 6 to pick from current models.
9ft height will fit most out there but will likely require bimini/rack removal for some
10ft height should fit almost everything.
8ft width fits 90's old school narrow beam waterski boats.
9ft width fits all but will likely require guidepole removal and many fights with the CFO backing in and out.
10ft width fits all with some degree of slop and no more fights.
the math says they will fit BUT it's a MUCH different experience backing a tige 22v in a 9ft width vs a new supra SL in the same width.'06 Supra Launch 20SSV-gone but never forgotten

I have 10’ X 12’ doors. Both boats fit no problem with the towers up. I recommend removing your guide posts for everyone. Just makes the the task a little bit easier with a bit more wiggle room.
