    Default Octane for 450

Owners manual says minimum octane for the 450 is 91. What if you are boating in the middle of nowhere and the only available fuel is 89?

What is your method for dealing with this?

    Straight out of Indmar Manual

Unless you are at high elevation I would not run 89 unless you had 50% 93 in the tank.

Are you currently out of gas? Put a couple gallons of 89 to get you to the dock and then fill up with 93.

No man. The boat is going to live out in the middle of the state where they donít have regular access to premium gas.

After a little research it is looking like Lucas oil octane boost might be a good way to go in a very cost-effective manner.

There are formulas out there where you can buy toluene and Xylene from paint supply stores in bulk and make your own octane booster.

I also know you can use MTBE.

Just be very diligent in understanding the amount of octane you get from boosters.

Each point is 0.1 octane. You need a minimum of 30 points of octane to make 89 into 91.

You could also mix in unleaded race gas like VP C10. Order it in 5 gallon cans. Itís 100 octane.

EDIT: you need 20 points or 2 numbers to make 89 into 91. However, I would error on the side of caution and go 30 points. Even at 91 you are leaving a little power on the table. Ideally you want 93.

    Lucas Oil 10026-PK12 Octane Booster - 15 oz (Pack of 12) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001OZL9OQ..._drUoDbGBYRZDD

Your Makai holds 60 gallons, looks like you would need 36oz of Lucas octane booster or 2.4 bottles.

    Another option:
    http://www.klotzlube.com/techsheets/KL-602.pdf

1oz per gallon gives you 25 points or 2.5 octane boost. 60 oz per fill up

Bonus on the klotz is itís also a fuel stabilizer.
