Yep. A lot. But then you will still hear the engine a bit, but not nearly as loud as he exhaust.

Surf Pipe will definitely help!! Having a boat with one I can tell you it is night and day. I say this because very rarely when taking off (depending on set speed, crew size ect...) or adjusting the wakeplate it pushes the water under the opening of the pipe (or that is what I am figuring it does) and the exhaust note gets much louder!! First time it happened it startled me for sure but 99.9% of the time it is in the water and really quiet. Also you can look at sound deadening the engine compartment.

I went to watch qualifying for the PWT in Katy a few weeks ago and they were pulling with an SA550 with the surf pipe and the only sounds I could hear from shore was the water splashing as the boat went by. Freaking thing was silent. I am a believer now.
