The issue I don't like with the Fake a lake/plunger is if you are in the boat and move around, that bounces the trailer. I haven't lost connection with the plunger but went with a setup using a hose connection and ball valve connected to the v drive inside the boat so I can monitor/shut it off.

I prefer to adapt the garden hose to 1-1/4" hose and attach to the V-drive inlet. There are several examples of those adapters on the forums, you'll just have to search, maybe "winterization" would help. Or just go to the hardware stare and invent it as you shop.
