Problem About Head Unit
Hello everybody.
My stock Sony CDX-M60UI went out and looking to replace it and not sure if I should get the same head unit or try something different.
After reading the reviews on the stock unit I'm leaning towards trying a different head unit, but I want to make sure the driver and transom remote will continue to work.
What else works that doesn't require spending the afternoon in the hatch?Last edited by macbookpro; 01-23-2015 at 12:01 AM.

Each brand of remote works on a different pulse code and are not interchangeable. You can add a code-learning adapter and use another brand HU but you'll incur delays.
In truth, Sony is no more or less reliable in a marine environment than any other brand. Given that you have two existing remotes, I would stick with Sony.
I would not assume that the Sony HU is defective at this point. Problems are common after long periods in storage.
Begin with verifying that you have a good voltage level across both the switched B+ & ground and the constant B+ & ground at the HU terminals. Check fuses and breakers. If you are going to do DIY diagnosis and repair then you have got to invest in a $15 multimeter and learn to use just a couple of basic functions. A few minutes of concise measurements can replace hours of speculation and trial & error.

Btw, if nothing else produces a change in status try temporarily disconnecting both remote controls from the HU and see if the HU suddenly becomes responsive.
Look for a reset (per the manual) or try a hard reset.
