Allowing trailer backup when no vehicle wiring
The guys that operate the storage facility where I store my boat over the winter don't have wiring harnesses on the vehicle they use to move the boats around and I'm wondering if there is any easy way to allow the trailer to back up without being wired to the vehicle?

You can lock out the surge mechanism by sticking something behind the protrusion on the side of the tongue where you can see it slides back and basically acts as a stopper. Older Boatmate trailers actually came with a tool that did that; it was just a piece of metal you stuck in there to block it from sliding back. I'm not sure about newer ones because my boat trailer does not have one, maybe the previous owner just lost it or something.

nickle fits just about perfectly, but may need some tape to hold it in place

We used the nickel trick before, but I was educated just this past year that there is a circular hole as well that you can stick a bolt through that does the trick much better and stays in place.

They sell a cap to replace te plastic one for the reservoir access. You can simple twist it to lock the trailer brakes out.

My 2013 came with the lockout nut. It was buried somewhere in the stuff it came with. Good luck finding it!
