Now that it’s here I’ve already started modding the max, so I figured a thread to document everything was appropriate. If anyone has questions about anything don’t hesitate to ask.
#1: Adjustable height seat riser. I did this immediately, and it’s a direct bolt in. The 12-17” is perfect for me to look over the tinted windshield without having to sit on the seat riser, and it’s easy to lower down if we are just hanging out on the boat.

#2 STEREO!!!
I ordered the boat without any stereo options other than the transom remote. I worked out a pair of rev10’s from the dealer, and ordered the following from exile audio. I got a great deal and excellent service from Brian and Donovan at exile!
Xi12D 12” sub
6.5” speakers x4
Javelin 5ch amp (interiors and sub)
XM30.2 2ch amp (for towers)
ZLD zone controller kit
Miscellaneous wires/fuses/distribution blocks for install
Last night I figured I might as well start with the most intimidating part, cutting an 11” hole in my brand new boat....

Oh yea, I used a premade box to seal in the back of the sub. I used an aerosol lacquer to coat it inside and out to hopefully help with moisture resistance.

I used a window seal to help seal it to the back of the helm
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180530/daf901d79e5dce074781c41e96471520.jpg
I used 2” #10 stainless screws going from the front of the sub, through the helm, and into the box
I’ll get some pics of it mounted from inside the helm later

Amp rack layout done, just need to drill some holes, throw some carpet down and wire it. I’m going to add a single blue LED under each amp and the charger to give them a little backlighting.

I also went ahead and added a rgb LED to each 6.5” speaker grill to shine on the woofer. https://www.oznium.com/led-bolts-prewired-leds/prewired-surface-mount-led

Great progress. some insight (that probably won't matter since you've already bought some stuff...
1) Nothing wrong with a premade box. I'm kinda surprised you didn't go with the premade box with the bedliner coating on it. did you not find one of those that would fit in the space you had to work with? I would have recommended this one if you're going for sealed to save space, but it has the bedliner coating... I have one of these for a 10" sub I added and the bedliner coating they did is TOUGH and I was impressed:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Q-Power-QBomb-12-Sealed-Car-Subwoofer-Sub-Box-Enclosure-QBOMB12S-Single/44665959?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=1187&adid=22222222227032083309&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=61114356896&wl4=pla-108507069176&wl5=9033604&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=112549749&wl11=online&wl12=44665959&wl13=&veh=sem
2) For the LED's to light up the cabin speakers, I would have probably went with a round LED Angel eye sized to match the bottom of that tweeter. But yours will probably look the same.
3) Glad to see I'm not the only person that doesn't sweat it mixing exile and WS! LOL. I have the exile BT controller and REV410s. Brian just rolls his eyes at me.
4) Love that max and your enthusiasm for modding it.
5) if you go LED cupholders, I strongly recommend the ones that have the translucent barrels and the whole inside of the cupholder glows. They're premade and actually surprisingly affordable and definitely some of the most professional looking ones around.

Thanks y’all. I did see that box when looking for one but it is slightly larger than what I ended up with. Space was a major concern and I ended up having to grind some fiberglass from inside the helm for this one to fit (if I had mounted the sub 1” lower then I would have been good, but the hole was cut at that point so no going back lol)
Do you happen to have a link to those cup holders? I was thinking about making my own rings with some led strips and plastic water line for a refrigerator.

So I finished up the stereo install over the weekend pulling some late nights so I could take the boat out last Sunday. Everything worked..... except a major air leak from were the sub box meets the helm wall on the bottom edge. It sounded terrible!
Remember I said I should have cut the hole for the sub a little lower....the box not being able to be pushed upwards enough was keeping it from sealing at the bottom.
To fix I ordered one of these: Atrend Universal MDF Constructed Spacer for 12 Inch Sub Boxes- Adds 3/4" to Decrease Woofer Depth https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013NWD12/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_CMegBbEX0EYEH
and cut a little bit off the top of it so it would make a perfect circle with the hole I cut. Then I drilled 8 small holes and counter sunk 4 short screws in to hold this to the wall, and 4 long screws going through the ring and into the box to hold it in place. Before I had the sub mounting screws going through the helm wall and into the box. Put some silicone around all seams for good measure.
Ignore the god awful hack job hole I cut, thank god it’s hidden lol.

Other than that this thing bumps hard! This system is crazy loud, I couldn’t be happier.
And good lord those rev10s scream with 300watts per speaker!!!

Been there, done that. The cupholder's we're recommending look WAY better than plastic tubes under the lip of the cupholders. Plus you get a nice glow from the translucent barrel and don't get the "pearl necklace" effect. I did the translucent tubing around my subwoofers though, but made sure I got the LED strips with a higher concentration of LED's (1 LED per CM, vs most strips that have like 1 per inch).
Thanks, doesn’t look like he does rgb though?
I've never seen RGB versions of the cupholders we suggest. But pick your fav color and just go with them. they look great and Malibu even uses them in their flagship M235.

Man I miss those days... 410’s are awesome. If only there was a way on the new SA. However, those JL 8.8’s can get down. I’m super happy with them after the only wakeboard run I’ve ever done behind the boat lol.

I read a lot on the MC site. Lots of praise for the JL 8s and 7s.
Then the WS fans speak and a little back/forth follows.
But at the end of day who cares when you have either.

Yep, four 8.8’s on a JL 800/8. They’re clean and get loud, even at 85’ off.
There’s no replacement for the mid-bass on the 410’s though. Having 2 10’s moving air up there is hard to beat. But for the money, unless they all fry, I wouldn’t make the switch. Sound quality wise the JL can’t be beat.
It’s still amazing to me that JL hasn’t built something to compete with wet sounds.
How sick would a 410 pod with 2 w6v3’s be?! Lmao

I don’t know that I could fit them on the ‘17 SA. The new ‘18’s with power tower are really square compared to mine. You could definitely fit one or two on a newer one.
I’d thought about maybe doing the Threesome with the Rev10s mounted on the speaker pads, just dunno how it’d look with that 410 hanging off the tower.

I ordered my SA with 2 8.8’s
I may upgrade and add 2 more 8.8’s but I think my amp is a 600/6.
Would I need a separate amp to drive 2 more 8.8’s? I could always add 2 Rev10’s

Of course you’d have to chime in... lmao
Dang that looks good. I dunno how I missed that when you had it. I guess the towers are the same. Did you have to do anything special with the outer clamps? In that picture ^^ it looks like you’re only using the inner! Lol
We’re you able to reroute the factory speaker wire to them or did you re-string the tower?
dusty2221
06-07-2018, 10:13 AM
Nothing about it was bolt on. I mocked up all my own brackets out of wood for fitment and then had the machine shop make them. Inner mount was the basic RGB swivel clamp, outer used the swivel base and pod without a clamp, I fabbed a mount that bolted directly to the stock outer top speaker plate in the tower and the wires ran thru the oem location.
They would have bolted up to the bar IIRC, but they would have been crooked as hell, no way I could live with that

OP, I’d pick up an 800/8, you’re gonna want to bridge 4 8.8’s. They want all the power you can give them with the crappy signal you get outta that ICE box.
You could easily sell that 600/6 to cover most of the cost. Heck, I might even buy it.

most would discourage you from mixing coaxial with HLCD speakers on your towers. They are meant to be played at different distances and IMO the REV10's would overpower the 8.8's. But who knows, maybe it'd get you a near/far mix??? I'm sure others might chime in.

It’s 10’ tall so I have to fold the tower down. Much easier to do on the new boats than the old radacage towers. My old obv fit without folding the tower, but before I built the shop I had to fold it every time to go in the garage.

Yes that is all the way up in that pic. When it’s lowered all the way I’m looking through the windshield. My wife (just got married on Saturday) still likes to flip up the bolster when she’s driving to sit even higher.
Cool. I ordered one for my Craz also. Great tip!

What rgb led's did you use for speakers/ subs and the cupholder area? Is the music controller your talking about the wetsounds unit that is crazy expensive?

These for the speaker grills:
https://www.oznium.com/led-bolts-prewired-leds/prewired-surface-mount-led
These ziptied to the wiring harness that runs above the cupholder area (and in the little cutout to the right of the helm):

Controller:
Wet Sounds RF RGB Multi-Function LED Lighting & Music Marine Speaker Controller https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HU9O73Y?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
I soldered these to the LED strips:
Zitrades LED RGB Light Strips 10PCS Female Connector RGB Wire Cable for SMD 5050/3528 RGB LED Strip Light https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00D0Y8SG6?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
And used combinations of the wire in different lengths and splitters found here:

Just a heads up to anyone else who may order this adjustable pedestal. It is great and screws straight to the deck in the same screw pattern. However, you cannot adjust it up as easily as I expected. You have to pull the pin out and lift the seat at the same time. Because the seat wants to rock back, it binds on the post. It can be done, it just takes two people. This is more of an adjustable height “fixed” post. Don’t expect to raise it up while driving. Still a great upgrade though.

Started on the LED cupholder and speaker rings. I found a great DIY on malibucrew to give credit where credit is due: http://www.themalibucrew.com/index.php?/forums/topic/49213-rgb-led-speaker-rings-and-cupholder-rings-diy/
I’m using 3/8” hose for the speakers and 1/4” for the cupholders:

My plan is to do all 8 cupholders in the floor to add some light down there along with the 4 interior speakers since the single LED’s I added don’t show up well against the black cone.
Im also going to do the cupholders on the transom and the rev10’s, but will run the 12v wire for that circuit through one of the acc switches on the dash so that I can turn them off when underway. The law will use any excuse around here to pull you, especially at night.
I’m hoping to have all this done for our next trip to the lake the weekend after the 4th.

The 1/4” tubing ended up being too small for the cupholders to drop all the down flush due to the led strip so I went with 5/16” OD. I found these little things in the hardware isle at Lowe’s to use as a connector.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180704/716d3612a0fcfedd75b02160e34ac9c8.jpg
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180704/7779e7ac45db55683194f8a2d4cac7ae.jpg
I crazy glued the ends of tubing together with that little insert in there so it can’t back out, and also used some glue to keep the ring up on the led strip.
To get the wires to fit in the hole I used a “D” shaped file and took off just enough fiberglass in the necessary spot for the cupholder to slide down.
I’m very happy with the results:

I tell myself it’s a labor of love and that flashing multi color LEDs make women horny hahaha
I’ve found that using the 4 pin connectors (and various lengths of premade wire w/4 pin connectors/splitters) makes it much easier. There is a lot of soldering up front but that’s just a little bench work, once it’s done the actual install goes quick, practically plug n play.
In the past I have tried the connectors that crimp onto the LED strips on one end and the wire on the other, those are a major pain in the rear to get good connections. I realized at some point that I spent so much time messing with them that I should have just soldered from the beginning.

Moving on to LED’s that are visible outside the boat.
The wetsounds controller has 2 outputs so I’m running all the external lights off the 2nd. I spliced into the positive wire (black wire in the rgb 4 wire lead) and ran it to the acc switch on the dash before continuing on, this allows me to turn them off when underway at night if the cops are on the lake, while the interior LEDs stay on.
The most difficult part of the job was fishing the rgb wire up and across the tower.

They are mounted with brackets I got through my moomba dealer, and I believe they got them from skiers choice (to go on wetsounds equipped boats). I was quoted $300 for the brackets if I recall correctly. The dealer had a few boats with rev10s already mounted and my wife liked the clean look of those brackets, so we had them order some for us.

Awesome thank you guys!!
I'm curious how your EQ interacts with your transom remote. Do you run bluetooth through the stereo, and control all of the volume/levels and zones with the EQ? What role does the transom remote play? Just skipping tracks and adusting the overall volume?
I have a Max on order, but didn't mess with the stereo controls much, so trying to decide if I should add an EQ also.

Good question CSM. I run all music through the fusion head unit (either Bluetooth from my phone or good old radio FM) and have the max volume for the head unit set at about 70-80% so the signal to the amps remains clear. I leave this turned all the way up and then adjust volume with the exile zone controller.
With it setup like this the transom remote will still change songs and turn the volume down, but it can’t turn the volume up (since it’s already set at a max of 70-80%). If you want to have more volume control with the transom remote or head unit just turn the volume up to 75%+ on the zone controller and then use the volume knob on the hu or transom remote to adjust.
That’s the best way I can think to explain it.
If you have a pair of properly powered tower speakers the zone controller is a must so you aren’t blowing the heads off your crew sitting in the stern all day long. My wife’s words: “I can’t hear myself think when those things are turned up, forget about communicating with someone right beside you” hahaha

So, I am thinking of using these in my 2018 Max. It lists specific diameter hole sizes that it fits. Since my boat is shrink wrapped already for winter, I have no way to measure the hole diameter. Can somebody tell me if the diameter is a match to what is specified on the page in the link please? I only wish I had the skill and patience to do the things you guys do here , but I have to depend on pre made things.

I mean two more in the back would be nice, but with my exile setup (one pair in the bow, one pair in the stern, and a 12” sub) it gets plenty loud! Probably too loud if you ask my wife lol.

I doubt it’ll go through since the wires come out of the backside of the drain hole. I always change fluids top side with an oil extractor so it’s no worry for me.

Here’s what a lot of folks have expressed interest in - adding hinges to the bulky side bench seats on the max.
Keep in mind I am adding ballast under these seats so I don’t need access to the bottom of the compartment. If I was using it for storage I would use a different type of hinge so the seat goes up and back instead of forward and down.
Note: This is a temporary test run to see if they will work. I only put 2 screws in the seat bottom and used double sided sticky tape on the seat base. I’ll go back and add more screws to the seat and drill out the base and use machine screws with washers and nylon lock nuts when I have more time.

My wife and in-laws got me the wakemakers 720lb bags for my birthday a couple weeks ago and I just finished the install:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190203/5ab35642b071257ba046edc730adeb87.jpg
Used a 2 1/4” hole saw to drill through the stringers. The ports on the wakemakers bags are a little further apart than the front ports on the stock rear bags so the holes are offset slightly.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190203/0379cc4cdc0d86e31da3fe39af3837e3.jpg
I ordered 8 of these to go over the holes:

Green: goes to the vent on the top of the 720
Red: attach the stock vent hose here from the rear bag
Blue: attaches to the vent thru Hull barb

I’m considering Ting into the 720 vent and using 2 fittings on top of the bag like the factory does on the rear bags.
Note: This has not been water tested yet but seems like it’ll work fine based on what others have done.

Complete parts list from wakemakers to do it this way (including the crimping tool and a couple extra clamp bands, I think 20ft of hose is enough- I used some extra I had from upgrading my old outbackV a few years ago):

Thank you! I did fill with a shopvac and there’s not much room left, but a row of life jackets or a few ropes should fit fine which is all I was hoping for.

On my Max build I didn’t opt for the rear side trays because I didn’t know if larger bags would interfere. Looking at your side storage cargo net I can’t help but think this would be great for the rear lockers too for those who don’t have the trays. Can you take a closer pic of how you hung them?
I’ve got a spare 750 lb fly fly high fat sac. It’s 5” longer than your 720 lb bag but all other dimensions are the same. You think it will fit in there?

Sure I’ll take some pics later today.
I think the 750 will be just a little too long but would probably work, you just wouldn’t be able to fill it all the way.

Are you using stock rears?
Yes, my boat was built in May 2018 and the stock rear bags have 2 front ports each. I believe some of the early 2018 model build’s did not come with front ports in the rear bags.
The 4x fly high 3/4” screw to 1 1/8” quick connect fittings on the parts list are what’s needed for the stock rear bags (if they have the 2 front ports).

If I was going to mount nets where the rear trays go I would screw straight into the engine divider panel on one side, and drill through the fiberglass lip on the other and use a bolt/nut.
The nets I used are rig rite manufacturing from amazon. This seems to be the best length for under the seats: Rig Rite Manufacturing 1200... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001BW6AXC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Next up....sound deadener. I used it on the underside of the engine tray, sides of the dividers in the engine compartment, under the v-drive cover and midship floor panel. I’m not sure how well it’ll do with the heat in the engine compartment but I tested a bit with a torch and think it’ll do fine.

I've used Kilmat as well, lining the underside of my helm over my WS XXX.
I would say it's attenuation is comparable with that of Dynamat at a much lower cost.
You can find various size sheets or rolls on Amazon.

To be honest not a whole lot of research, but I did read a lot of amazon reviews on comparable products and decided on kilmat simply based on its reviews and the lower price point.

Hey z28ke, I like what you did with the RGB LEDs in the cockpit. I may follow some of your ideas for my Max LED lighting. I was wondering since you had the cup holders out, can you tell me if there are drain tubes or do they dump water in the storage compartments?
Did you get a chance to test out the sound deadening you did to see if there was a big improvement?

Dang that sucks to hear. So the midship cup holders just dump water into the underseat storage? If so I’ll definitely plug them like I had to do on my Yamaha. I’m guessing the 2 cup holders in the bow dump into the hull and go back to the bilge? I may just run tubes from all the cup holders so they dump into the bilge and be done with it.

Mainly the issue was from washing the boat and cockpit. The Yamaha storage compartments were all carpet and not the rubber lined like the Moomba. So carpet could get soaked real quick. I plugged mine soon after I bought it and never had to worry over it again.

No drain tubes on any of mine, but you could take one to the hardware store and find a plastic cap that would plug it.
Hopefully I’ll have it out in April to see how the sound deadener worked!

I did, I removed the 2 courtesy lights, drilled them out from the backside (giggity) and glued in single rgb led’s.
I don’t believe I took any pics of the process but these are the single led’s I used:

I just used the courtesy lights switch to power the wetsounds rgb controller. If you aren’t going rgb you can just tap into the positive and negative wire going to the courtesy lights and wire the cup holders directly off that.

You can just find the wiring right at the back of the courtesy light, tap into it then daisy chain to the new LEDs. That's what I did. Don't have to mess with anything under the dash if you're not doing RGB. I tapped into the wiring on each side of the boat. Pretty simple. I also left my courtesy lights w/o power since I never use them, and I didn't want white lights going along with my blue LEDs.

So the ballast upgrade was a success. Had a nice wave with plenty of push with just my wife in the boat and 1/2 tank of gas. Can’t wait to see the wave with a full crew.
I started filling and soon realized I forgot a plug on one of the stock bags. Duct tape saved the day!

To follow up on the ballast install, I went ahead and added a T and another fitting to the vent of the 720’s.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190410/7db212092ddfefd67ba683d2ceb86f53.jpg
Everything worked great but they didn’t seem to drain as well as expected. One of the check valves didn’t seem to be working, when I put my hand over the thru hull it finally started to suck the rest of the water from the 720 through the rear bag and into the pump. I’ll have to make sure I didn’t install it backwards. Part of the issue could be an excessive amount of air in the system since it was the first time out.
I also realized the stock front bag has 2 vents/thru hulls so I need a second check valve up there.

I guess they're functional. Not the direction I would have gone, but it gets the job done.
Personally, I would have busted out my hole saw and put in a pair of cupholders that were flush mounted into the deck. My XLV has a pair of cupholders for the bow that are flushed into the deck at the base of the windshield. For the Max, you'd probably have to put them on the front corners of the bow deck. PLENTY of room there. In fact, one of the things that bugs me about the Max is that in the area between the tip of the bow and the back of the front bow seats is DEAD SPACE where you can't access it. Total wasted opportunity for even more storage IMO. Making that a compartment for dock lines, anchor, etc would have been so much better than making it so it's impractical to impossible to access that space.

Where would you even add permanent cup holders to a Max in the bow if using the cushion? The entire bow is upholstered with no flat fiberglass surfaces other than the gunnels. I kind of wished they added them to the front of the filler cushion basically in the same place as the cup holders they cover up.

The blue arrows is where I was thinking. Don't know if there's space at the red arrows but definitely worth considering too
Here’s what a lot of folks have expressed interest in - adding hinges to the bulky side bench seats on the max.
A link to the hinges:
https://www.greatlakesskipper.com/lund-boat-complex-piano-hinge-2008307-17-1-2-x-6-1-2-inch-aluminum?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&adpos=1o1&scid=scplp8302624&sc_intid=8302624&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzaK59IL93wIVkYzICh3vCQMOEAQYASAB EgIWwPD_BwE
This solution looks great! Any idea where I would find up and back hinges and what those would look like?
Thanks

These are the type of hinge:
Sea-Doo New OEM Sport Boat Seat Hinge Bracket Set 230 Challenger, SP, Wake https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GVT3K4G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_SanqDb7AB02P4
But there is one major problem.... there is no cross support to mount the rearward hinge to on the max. Only solution would be to build one from hdpe.

Thinking about adding RGB lighting to my Max in the off season. What controller do you guys recommend or should I just buy a roll of RGB LEDs from Amazon that come with their own controller?

I have the same 720 bags but mine are not vented. Did you ever fill and use yours before they were vented? I was curious if they were worth venting? Was considering venting mine this off season, this season i have just been keeping one of the fittings hand tight and manually venting if needed.

Never tried them without, I vented them from the start. If you’re having to regularly vent them manually I’d say it’s definitely worth doing.

Hey z28ke, do you have any video of the bass from your sub?
I want to add a box to the back of mine and wondering if the free air WS sub will sound decent or should i plan to toss it? I'm not looking for massive bass but would like to feel it more in the cockpit.
Brings me to another point. Have you had to add any sound deadening to under the dash? I've noticed that even with the stock free air WS sub the dash can develop a rattle on the top. i want to say it comes from under where the cell phone pocket / usb cubby is. I haven't really looked under there to see if I can make it more quiet under there.

I’m not a audio expert but even with your sub being a FA I think it would benefit greatly from a box enclosure behind it. I don’t have any good vids that I recall, and doubt my cell could capture it accurately.
I’m also thinking a box might help with the rattle from the dash you are hearing, but if not it would be easy to get up in there and figure out where it’s coming from and secure it.

And good lord those rev10s scream with 300watts per speaker!!!

Going up to the in laws lake house this weekend so I’m hoping to finish up round 1 of the rgb LED install tonight or tomorrow night.
I know you did this 2 years ago but there is a lot of good info in this thread so first of all thanks for that! On your box that you mounted to the back side of the wall for your sub, is it sitting on the floor or is it "floating"? I am wanting to do the same thing to the factory sub on my Makai but I feel like the box will be floating.

Been working on the boat again lately!
Installed 4 taco marine fender holders:
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200420/97846c2f925048320145fa5d9158e85d.jpg
Removed the pads from the swim platform, transom, gunnels and bow in preparation for installing my Gatorstep kit. Found out a plastic razorblade WILL scratch the gel coat. No big deal since I had already planned on buffing the entire top half of the boat before putting the pads on. Also found out a DA polisher is not very effective at cutting gel, getting handy with a harbor freight rotary now! Going to go back over it with the DA to remove the swirls from the rotary.
Here is a pic of the “bluesteel” Gatorstep, goes perfect with the boat in my opinion:

That blue steel looks good!
3M makes an adhesive remover wheel that you can chuck into a cordless drill if you haven't taken your old swim platform adhesive off yet.
It's like a big rubber eraser, kinda messy flinging goobers but it makes for a quick job.

Dang, I actually have one but didn’t think to use it! Once I realized the plastic blade left tiny scratches I just used gasoline on a rag and rubbed the hell out of it, took some time but did the trick. Gasoline seemed to work better than acetone or mineral spirits for me if anyone is wondering/future reference.

Such a great thread z28ke. You were the first person I got advise from when I purchased my boat. I think Im done modifying it for awhile lol. I pretty much copied you, with some adds. This weekend I put a sealed box with a 10" kicker in the dash, and a ported 12" on the amplifier/battery side. I also plumbed the WM bow bag to the 2 front pumps, and it worked great yesterday. I now have 6200lbs of ballast that auto fills.

Oh man....3 of us were taking turns about every 10mins. Such limited space, and very uncomfortable. Our arms are all scratched up. My buddies kept telling me they have sweat equity now......automatic invites lol. After everything we went through, if it hadnt of worked, we might of set the boat on fire lol. Man, that gatorstep install looks really good. Color matching looks OEM. Nice job. I could never take on a job like this. Mostly because of removing the old pads and cleaning the old glue. I would prolly wreck my gel finish to the point of no recovery.
Just one comment, you should've had them put "Murder Max" on 'the swim platform, that would've killed it (get it, pun intended)

Thank you for the compliment! It’s a lot darker than what came on the boat which was impossible to keep clean, plus being a 2018 it didn’t have the pieces around the top surfaces of the bow. I thought long and hard about “murder max” but decided against it for resale purposes, even though I don’t have any intentions to sell/upgrade for a while.

I can’t take any credit for that as a few others here have already done it, once I showed my wife a picture of one she said “yep”.
I didn’t drill through it. I just used some 1” stainless steel screws from the bottom and put some marine sealant/adhesive on the threads to hopefully keep them in there. Seems like that has worked for others.

Hey MM, been looking at the taco marine and found these:
https://www.boatoutfitters.com/stainless-steel-quick-release-fender-lock-cleat.
Question, how big is the threaded portion on the one's you installed?. This one requires a gaping 3/4" hole to be drilled into the hull. Is that correct? Did u install a different size? I mean, I'm ok if that is what it is, just want to make sure before I commit. Seems like a pretty big hole. And the receiver base measures 1.5". That's pretty big. My buddy has phender pro's in his MC and I don't remember them being that big.

For anyone interested, I found these quick release fender holders. They are a little smaller but also require a smaller hole drilled into the hull. Hole size is 5/8" vs 3/4". The base is 1" vs 1.5 " on the TACO. You could drill these with a 5/8" drill bit, prolly harder to chip gel coat with a bit over a hole saw, I think.
A little cheaper too.
Has anyone seen these or purchased from this site. It seems legit.Found it on google search, and we all know how anything on google has to be 100% legit!:)

Well I need to trim another 1/2” or so off each side to make it easy. Right now I have to turn it a little sideways to get it it in/out but wanted err on the conservative side with my first cut.

Well I need to trim another 1/2” or so off each side to make it easy. Right now I have to turn it a little sideways to get it it in/out but wanted err on the conservative side with my first cut.
Do you have to squeeze the box a hair? I do to get around the struts......just a slight squeeze. Should I trim off more?

I figure the squeeze is inevitable but I’ll take that any day over what you normally have to do if you don’t remove the struts.

In hindsight I probably should have used this in the engine compartment: Car Insulation - 4' x 10' Roll (40 Sqft) Sound Deadener & Heat Barrier Mat - Automotive Lightweight Thermal Insulation https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016QUS1YE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_rzSyCb4FET75A
Did you tape it on with thermal tape , or did it require adhesive spray also? I would want the option to be able to remove easily for resale (when / if)?
Did it make a big difference? Thanks!!!

I've put the same stuff on my Mojo. Planning on doing the floor panel this winter if I get to it. You definitely do NOT want to fool with trying to take it off after it is applied. To answer the question, it has it's own adhesive backing and the tape is just for the seams.

I replied to your pm but figured I’d share here as well. It’s a good light especially considering the lower price point when compared to some of the other brands, but when mounted at the bottom of the max hull I think it’s a little deep in the water. I’m considering adding another pair of lights a little higher up and spread apart more since my lake isn’t the clearest. If you have clear water the titan2 would likely be all you need. Here’s a pic:

Sorry for the delayed responses y’all, been busy with the baby at home and trying to get my c10 truck project to a stopping point before lake time!
I went with rgb underwater lights, so I have a controller wired in under the helm and I believe I pulled power for that right off the positive Buss bar.
Correct, I wouldn’t want to run those off a 3amp circuit. Best place to put a relay is under the helm and fish the wires down the starboard side gunwale using some really stiff bailing wire to attach it to and pull through.

Did you ever end up flipping the check valve when you said your midship bags wouldn’t drain or prune up all the way? Is the “loop”necessary by the midship bags or can I just run my midship vent tube lines and T directly to the rear bags? I’m about to install my midship vents and just trying to make sure it fills, drains and vents correctly using the check valves. There is no markings on the check valves for which direction is the path of flow.

The only thing I’ve changed since the original install is adding a T and using both vent ports on the top of the midship bags. I don’t recall if I posted pics of that but I will later today. The loops may not be necessary but the system works fine so I’ve left it alone, no issues with air getting trapped that I’ve noticed. It drains completely too, I’ll usually wait to drain the last 10-20% when I’m cruising home to help move the water to the stern.
To figure out the check valve direction blow in it with your mouth (lol sounds funny but it works)!

Sounds like what I was envisioning. I was planning on relocating my rear bag overflow from the bottom how it comes on the 2019+ Max to moving them to the top of the rear bags like how they come on 2018 Max and most other bag systems I’ve seen on various boats. Something like this below. Is that how yours ended up being?

I have two vents t’d from the top of the rear bags just like the mids in the pic, and you’ll want the check valve after the T that connects the rear and mid vents. See my lovely edit below; the green “squiggly” is where you put the check valves.

Got it and thanks for confirming. My boat is 1.5 hours away so I'm trying to do this upgrade in one trip with everything I need heh.
I should have realized I could have just stuck my finger in the check valve to see which way the flap went but yes blowing also works lol. The housing is also larger on the side the flapper has to fold into so that also should have been a clue for me lol. Regardless I went ahead and marked the flow direction so I don't forget when it comes time to install next week.

Based off your recommendation I realized I did not have enough bag and hose fittings to do two vents per each rear bag instead of one so I put in an order at WM this morning for them. I also ordered another pair of 1" Tee fittings so that I could make this plumbing network below. I think this is how I should do it similar to yours. I'm going to move my ballast sensor in between the check valve and the Tee fitting. Thoughts?

I get a lot of air back in the bag. Does these check valves prevent that from happening? If so, I also plan to add a check valve to my

My new Makai gearbox has one heck of a high pitched scream when you put the rpm's to it. Did your Max do that, and did the sound dampening knock it down? We noticed it on the demo ride with the dealer too, and he said that's just a v drive for you. I was immediatly thinking about doing what you did.

Hah I like making the diagrams as it helps me understand what I need to do as well and what fittings I need to buy. Some of them are kind of pricey for what they are! Glad you enjoy them if it helps ya too!

“They” say not to do that on the front bow bag because it is piggybacked off the hard center tank, which you could supposedly tin can when pulling vacuum. I have doubts since even with the check valves on my rears the bags almost never get all the water out and suck flat.

Added some rubrail docking lights to the boat last week before taking it up to the lake. I used these: https://www.itc-marine.com/product/led-rubrail-light/
Warning: cutting the rubrail out is not for the faint of heart. I used a combination of a dremel, angle grinder with cutoff wheel, and hacksaw to make the cut.
For the wiring I found the spade connector for the heater fan “high” in the harness under the helm and ran positive to that(since I don’t have a heater), and ground to the negative bussbar under there.
Here’s some pics

Was it necessary to cut the rub rail?
The specs show them mounting over top the rail. I know to get wires and such into the boat you have to do something, but I figured just remove a screw and enlarge the hole.
I am probably missing something here, but you do have Kahunas and patience to get that done. The look great, good job.

I used 50mil just for ease of use and availability. It is nice that you can also double up during application at get 100mil. However, some spots the 50mil will bend easier so I left it single layer to save my fingers. I actually did both sides on the engine dividers completely. Trying to keep the plastic from vibrating in the tracks.
Not to hi-jack, but is it worth pulling the floor panel up? The v-drive cover, and dividers made sense, not sure about the floor.

I'm thinking of getting one. Wife always has to stand when pulling me and I always have to sit on the bolster when it's rough and I need to see good. Is the pedestal secure and doesn't wobble? I want a taller base but also want it to feel tight and secure with no major wobble or movement when on the lake. I asked this same question a couple pages back. I know I bought 1 based on his answer.
We set ours at 15". My Mojo factory is 9", new unit all the way down is 12".
We love it. So much easier to see and the bolster now supports your legs and my wife does not have to stand. If you get the pin 100% engaged, then tighten the handle all the way, it does not move. We leave the swivel slightly loose so we can rotate, but no other movement.
Install is super easy, phillips screwdriver and about 10 minutes while the family was getting packed for the lake.
