Direct drive prop experiences? looking for advice
Hello all... long time lurker first time poster.
I've searched many many sites and spoken to a few people about prop selection but can't find any info relating to my specific DD and 3 blade props.
I've been told and have read that 3 blades are better on the 1:1 ratio for DD's - I'm okay with this.
I'm hoping someone might have experience with either the Acme 543 or the 1229...
The boat is an 07 mob LS 21' DD - we usually ride with 6-8 adults on board, Gravity III system filled, + #1000 between two other bags, an extra #700 for surfing.
With that setup the stock prop is obviously not cutting it, but it's hasn't ever failed to get a rider up.
I'd hate to go too extreme re-propping which makes me afraid of the 1229, I don't mind scrubbing 4-5 mph off the top but sometimes getting to the glass quickly is nice.
tl,dr: Do I go with a 543 or a 1229

Call Nettles and tell them all your info. They are the pros and can make the recommendation. If you don't like it I'm sure you can swap it with them.

Well, I can tell you that I have a 92 Supra Sunsport DD with the PCM 351 Pro Boss (285hp). The previous owner put an 13x11.25 prop on mine (which is the same spec as the Acme 543). He was into wakeboarding and only sometimes surfed.
I am more like 60 to 70% surf and 40% wakeboard. I will slalom every now and then just to prove I still can.
I think the prop is fine for my needs. I will load the boat down with 1300 to 1500 pounds regularly. Yeah, when I'm maxxing out the ballast I'm pretty much maxxing out my engine's ability at surf speeds. But it's worked fine so far.
I did a top speed run once and my boat went 43mph at 5600 RPM's (which I know is too high on the RPM's, but I had to try it. That said, I can get the boat in the 30's fine without over-revving it.
***Keep in mind that I have the 1:1 transmission. Everything would change with a gear reduction tranny like the 1.23:1 But you seemed to imply that you had a 1:1 like me. But I know Supra used different trannies so check first as Moomba might have also!!!
You COULD go to a 13x10.5 if you really want to focus on surfing. It's a tough call.2008 Moomba Mobius XLV. Monster Cargo Bimini, WS Rev 410's, Polk Cabins, 3 Infinity Subs, PPI amps, WS420, Exile BT, upgraded ballast pumps, up to 3,500+ pounds of ballast, Blue LED's...
1992 Supra Sunsport. **SOLD** 2k pounds ballast, Surf System, Blue LED's everywhere, decent audio system.
