Boat Decontamination
So, the State of Utah is starting a new decontamination procedure for boats leaving Lake Powell. They have worked with an entrepreneur to install and test a tank that contains fresh water heated to 110F which is looped through a heater. The intent is for you to back your boat into the tank, submerge all water inlets, run the engine, fill the ballast bags, empty the bags, and you are on your way 8-15 minutes later. Is anyone else concerned with running your engine in 110F water? This is certainly faster than the current fake-a-lake method with hot water washers, but I don't want to use this system if it ruins something on the boat. Any thoughts?

Your engine runs hotter than 110F...so you would be putting water through the system that is colder than the engines normal operating temp..
One word: thermostat!
There is nothing in your boat that would be hurt by 110F water...2021 Moomba Max

yeah 110 isn't going to hurt anything. Your hot water faucet puts out 120-140.

My worry is that the engine's cooling system is designed around water typically at most 20 degrees cooler and usually more than 30-40 degrees cooler. The idea is to dump a bunch of energy from the engine to the water using a heat exchanger. Cooler water makes for a less efficient heat exchanger. I guess since the engine won't be under load, it shouldn't be an issue, but wanted to see if anyone has had issues in hot water.

Your engine will be plenty safe even of it ran in the 230’s, you will be safe.

Ha, I don't mind the 30 min when on the lake with a beer in my hand, but sitting at the launch waiting to go home.....
