i'm assuming it is calibrated. i had it installed at the factory when i ordered the boat. it matches up pretty close to the dial speedometer.

Not necessarily. Both speedometers could be off. Suggest u calibrate both with a portable gps. It's a pretty simple procedure.

The PP should be calibrated everytime the power,ie battery is disconnected, and checked periodically anyways and the boat speedos even more often as something as simple as a knee bumping the adjustment knob can alter the speedo readings.Usually once you set them up hopefully using a GPS to calibrate with they are good to go.
This summer at the World Waterski championships,I noticed they check/calibrate the boat in use Everytime before a new event starts and if anything outside of regular pulls occurs during Any event,ie use the boat as an Ambulance of sorts to transport an injured skier/jumper etc. These boats were using Zero off which is GPS but just the same when the potential for a World Record is there the boats MUST be dialed in exactly so they do it quite often.
Extreme yes but in the real world it doesn;t hurt to check oncein awhile or like mentioned at initial season startup.

I was able to hit 40mph @4900 RPM on the weekend. Plate in the middle. I don't think I can do that in the middle of summer. Could have to do with the air and water temp. My thinking is that water is more dense at 50 degrees vs. 75 degrees. Less drag?

I swear that when the boat was new I could do 45 or so.

doesn't water get less dense when it cools? isn't that why ice floats? i have never been able to hit 40. will check out the sppeds etc next month when it starts to get cooler and we just ride around a little more.

I think PP or a tight cable can cut one or two MPH. WOT was less than 4500 rpm.

    It worked out over time

Year, i believe water and gas get more dense at the temp decreases.....is solid vs gas so your boat will always go faster when its cold......ie cold gas and cold water both perform better. hence why vapour lock and poor performance

the prop digs in better when the water is more dense, less microcavitation

More likely you are hauling fewer people and less junk. The winter gas formulation is also probably a little better.

Water density is NOT going to make a difference between 80 and 35 F. The density range change at "almost ice" is zip.

the number don't lie, maybe ist the gas density, i read a post on it somewhere that cooler gas is more effiecient, although my rpms don't change so thats why i thought maybe water..........it is an interesting perception tho....thanks for the numbers dog

What can be happening is colder air temps outside. Colder air is much more dense and also will create more pressure in the combustion chambers of the engine. This then creates more horsepower.

This is what an intercoller does for a turbo or a super charged engine. It cools the incoming air to make it more dense and create better horsepower.

    Torque = acceleration

    Horsepower is Top End and

Hotter days you have less horsepower output and lower top ends.

Colder days you have a little more horsepower and better top ends.

Not saying its a lot of ponies but a few can push you over the top.

In my LSV what i noticed it water quality greatly effects my top end. When the wind is blowing even a little, just enough to ripple the glass my top end can be around 34 ish.

When the wind is not blowing and its all glass i can hit 38ish. Water conditions and wind will play a part in it too. As well as wind drag from things on your tower like boards and such.
