03 mobius lsv clanking in steering column upon throttle

So I have an 03 LSV and when I give it hard throttle (like pulling someone out of the water while wakeboarding) I hear a clanking behind the steering wheel or up under the dash.
I assume its in the steering column...
It only happens for a second or two and goes away, but its real annoying.
Any ideas?

I have similar symptoms in an 06 OBV. No noticeable clanking, but vibration in the wheel for a second or two when starting out from dead stop.

yea - I guess its more of a vibration, but its loud enough to sound like a clanking.
Anyone else had this problem?
Anyone figured out how to stop it?
