I have to do that on my 03 Outback in the next week or so. Do you have any advice? Did you turn your steering wheel to shorten the cable maximally before removing? Was is a pain at all to center the steering wheel after installing the new cable? Anything else?
Thanks.

I replaced the cable on my 02 Outback yesterday. Took about one hour.
I turned the wheel all the way to the side that shorten it up to get the bolt off the cable/rubber hookup. Tied a rope to the hole and pulled it out throught the front. Pulled the new one in. Hooked up the new cable to the rubber and put in back to the middle position. Than hooked up the steering wheeel with it centered.
Good luck
Eddie.
