Depth finder not working??

What should I look for , to be the problem with my depth finder checked wiring on gauge it self all looks fine gauge will just read --- .I checked the puck looking deal on bottom of boat and it is not loose or broken away . If it is indeed the sensor (black puck) how do you remove it because it is epoxyed solidly to bottom of boat under the motor.What would the proper way to test the wiring to make sure that everything is ok before I go and try to pry the sensor off and replace it .

If it is indeed the puck they are easy to remove. Get a small piece of 2x4, lay it down on the hull and push it against the puck and with a hammer give it a good wack against the 2x4. Should pop it right off, clean area real good by sanding down old epoxy and clean with alcohol.

My first thought is how do you determine it's the puck? I don't know and have never seen a way to tell.

So does anyone know how to test the depth finder sensor to see if it is broken, or is this something you just replace on spec?
