Lake Martin, AL
After a post in another thread by LSM I google mapped Lake Martin to see where it is. It's huge and not really that far away. I might think about a long weekend up there some time. If anyone knows more about it, please post your thoughts and/or pics. Is there camping where you can park the boat anywhere? Thanks!

Sorry to double post but I found a site with some decent photos of campsites, etc.:

And a concert visible only from your boat on the lake. Very cool:

Hey guys,
It would be great to have a get together on Lake Martin. It is over 40,000 acres of water. It's an awsome lake. Fortunate for me its only about 40 miles or so from the house.
As posted above, Wind Creek State Park is the camp ground to stay if you plan a camping trip. I think it is the largest camp ground in the state of AL. You can reserve a space but you can't reserve a specific spot. It is first come first serve for the spot.
The only deal is that Wind Creek is on the North West side of the lake.
If coming from GA, Highway 280 near Auburn, AL will take you to the north end of the lake.
I'd say 90% of the camping spaces are on the water. Most people anchor one end of the boat and tie the other off to the shore line. (pine tree)
There are a few cabins there for rent as well. They are only a couple of years old. They have piers for docking your boat at the cabins.
Myself, I don't have a camper so I rented a house last time I went over. You can google Lake Martin Rentals and find a house for rent.
Let me know.........

You need to check out Chimney Rock if you go. It's a place where a lot of boats get together and party while a few crazy people jump off the rock. My friends have been trying to get me to trailer our boat down there to go hang out. Our lake, lake Wedowee, is just above lake Martin on the Tallapoosa river.

I'll be sure to post up here before we head up there. Probably not this year b/c I have other trips planned already. But next May, June or Aug. is very likely.
