Carb Questions
I just bought a 2000 Moomba Outback. I am wondering if the carb needs to be changed out. The boat has not been run inseveral years. I started it up and it is running but will not idle. Does anyone know the carb model nmber? I know it is a Holley but I do not know which one.

Has the fuel been cleared, in other words is it old fuel with degraded octane levels? Maybe its just build up in the jets or some dirt, I wouldn't be in a rush to change out the carb, at worst you'll need a rebuild. An old trick is running transmission fluid slowly through the venturis while the engine is running to help clean up the jets and such.

Sled, I dont' think I've heard that one in over 10 years. You can also spray with carb cleaner and let is soak-- see what you get.

Well, I'd try all this stuff before I started tearing it down.

I will try the carb cleaner first. Would you just spray all over and let it sit on it?

If a carb has been setting for a long time, especially with old gas in it, you should really pull it off and rebuild it. It is likely that your gaskets are no longer in good order and any varnish that built up over time has clogged your jets. A rebuild kit is fairly cheap. If you use products on the carb while it is installed on the engine, the debris that you remove will go into the engine. That debris can cause other problems in the engine.
If you are going to take the carb to someone else to rebuild, get an estimate of what that will cost. Then compare that price to a new Edelbrock carb. I found that it was cheaper to buy a new carb when I did this several years ago. It was cheaper in the fact that I could never get the stock carb to work right after taking it to the dealer a few times.1997 MasterCraft 205
