    Default Outback Ballast Question...

On my 2008 Outback Direct Drive there are 2 through-hull fittings (one on each side of the boat) that are connected to the ballast system. When the ballast is full water comes out of both sides, however when I am draining the ballast it only comes out of the starboard side.

My assumption is that the port side fitting is simply a vent, but I just wanted to verify…

Hasn't changed much since '04. Mine does the same thing. An overflow, as it were.

I like the way the manifold is built, tho. Made it easy to add another sack, if you choose to do it

I'm actually hoping to swap out the 400lb for something larger, I just need to actually do some reading/measuring to figure out how big I can fit back there; I'm hoping a 750 will plop in perfect...

    Ian,

If you only have one ballast bag, then the other fitting should be for your bilge pump. I can't explain why water come out of both though when you empty your ballast.

Sorry Ian, I was speaking from experience on my 2006 LSV, which has one dump fitting per bag plus one for the bilge (total of 4), with the bilge fitting being in the rear. Didn't mean to insult your intelligence ...

Ian, I replaced the factory sac with this one. Really beefs up the wake, and when emptied it folds up nicely under the seat. Had to lengthen the hoses though.

I looked at that one, but don't you have to move the seat up to the sun deck position for it fully fill?

You have to move the sundeck up with the factory one also, correct? I did with mine (2007).
