    Default engine question

I have decided to buy a new Mobius and am very excited to get on the lake. I currently own a 97 Boomerang. If your in the Georgia area and want a good boat, let me know.

Now to the question, I have been looking at used Moomba's. I went to meet with a owner of a 1999 Outback. After the test run and when he pulled it out of the water, he started the engine and cleared all of the water out of the engine. Is this a good thing to do? I ask him and he indicated that it was something he always does. Does not seem right to me, but was wondering if it helps the life of the engine or maybe the water impeller.

    Any thoughts?

    Default engine damage

We never start the engine out of the water. Even if it is only for a short period of time it could cause damage. The engine isn't being cooled and the water pump is dry. If you wanted to clear the water out just open the pitcocks and unscreww the header lines near the transmission.

Default I would not buy this boat

I don't know how long the owner runs the boat to "clear the water" but as far as I am concerned this is a bad thing. It only takes a few seconds to shred an impeller when you run it dry. You should always have water hooked to the boat when it is running. The common practice is to connect a hose to the boat to flush out the lake water with fresh water.
