Default Can I beach an inboard?

I was browsing the new posts, and I saw the "Favorite Picture" thread. I was supposed to be working, so of course I looked through it. I noticed alot of photos where people had beached their boats.... or appeared to have beached them. I thought with the fins and the drive shaft that would be a big NO NO.

    Am I off base?

    Some do, some don't.

I don't/won't. If we want to get to shore we swim from where I anchor the boat.

Beaching is a personal preference and a slope of the bank issue. If the slope is very shallow, you won't be able to successfully do it. Other issues to worry about are rocks/objects that may damage your hull. If you are sure that it is sand, then you only need to worry about repeated beachings acting as sandpaper on your gelcoat. It will take a LONG time for that to be much of an issue. The only other thing is if you stir up the sand at the beach with the prop, you need to shut the engine down before that sucks into your impeller and engine pump too much.

Your fins and prop should not be involved in the beaching process.

I beach at an island on our lake where everyone goes to hang out. the slope is pretty steep so even though the front is on sand the back is still 3 feet deep or so. now where our lake house is it gets shallow over a long period of a slight incline and therefor i am unable to beach so i anchor in about 3 ft deep and walk...at least until the boat house gets finished in a few months!

There is an old thread on this if you search for it. Shore angle is a big part of it.
Personally, I beached my old runabout ouotboard all the time. After seeing the wear on the hull as a result - I never attempt to beach my inboard.
If you believe something to be true, it will be - in it's consequences.

x2 on maxpower. I do both and it is based on the shoreline, wave action and how long I plan to stay.

I personally never beach our boat, but our boat does have a beach guard that runs down the hull so it wouldn't wear the gel coat when beaching.

Have maybe twice, but its just so easy not to that I never do. Folks do it all the time though. At least at my lake.

I did once when I forgot to put the drain plug in. Noticed the bilge kick on about 20 seconds off the ramp. Beached the boat while my son ran back to the truck to get the plug. Needless to say the plug goes back in before we leave the lake for the day now.
