temp gauge never gets very high...thermostat?
Hi guys, I have an 05 XLV. The temp gauge never seems to get above the second notch (the first being the far left one). I can't remember the numbers, but it may stop around 160ish. I am pretty sure this is not warm enough. Am I wrong, or does this mean a bad thermostat? It seems like the gauge actually does work since it moves a bit. Is a thermostat tough to replace?

I have an '07 LSV with a 180 degree T-stat. My temp gauge bounces between 180 and 165 which means the T-stat is working properly. I was told that prior to 2007, they used 160 degree T-stats. If that's the case, then yours sounds like it's working just fine.

I have 06 LSV w/ 325hp Fuel Inj and it runs between 165 and 180..mostly around 175. I had 04 Outback before with 310 Carb and it hung around 160-165...

I thought the 160 that I mentioned earlier sounded funny, so I stopped by the storage unit to double check. It's going to ~135. Something must be wrong, right? It seems to run ok to me.

Mine does not get above 110 so I am even worse off.
The boat is only 1 day old so is there a break-in period?

I can confirm the older carbed 310 goes from 160-165 and stays right there.
My Mom said I'm not allowed to get wet!

I got mine up to 130 today.
I think the reason why I cant get it to normal operating temp is because I am taking it easy durring my break-in period and the water is VERY cold.

Indmar Engine Thermostats
All current Indmar engines use 160 degree thermostats. Current Moombas have a separate temp sender for the gauge on the dash and for the ECM so it is possible that what you are seeing is a gauge or sender malfunction.The only real way to tell is to shoot the thermostat housing eith an infra red thermometer or hook the engine up to a scan tool and see what temp the ECM is reading from the coolant sensor. With a 160 stat, the engine shold run at least very close to 160 and depending on the water temp might go as high as 190
