Kenwood Head Unit/Wired Remote Compatibility
Does anyone know for sure if the Kenwood KDC-MP4028 (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-afvdcQw...arch=kdcmp4028) will work with the Aeware and Kenwood remotes shown below? I guess this head unit came on some of the 2005 Moombas and Supras. I am getting conflicting info as to whether or not this head unit will work with these remotes and I have a chance to pick up this head unit used.
Thanks,
Al

Al,
I looked at the listing on Crutchfield and it says it has a wireless remote. At the Features/specs page beside wired is says no. I looked at the 232MR and it says OPTIONAL next to the wired remote section.
I am guessing since the MP4028 is not a marine unit it does not have that option..
BTW, I got the remote in mail yesterday. Thanks. Will be a week or two before I even get chance to look at it.. sweatin the hole drill! At least the remote will cover up any mistakes!!!

I have the MR232 for my boat, and I purchased 2 of the Kenwood Marine Remotes (I forget the model number, but its the one you pictured above) and its actually a "wired IR" control, which I've never heard of. Its a single wire that comes from the radio, and the remote info sheet says it is only functional with Marine head-units.
If you are considering purchasing a new head unit I'd definately get a Marine unit, as a car reciever might not last long in a boat...

From what I understand from a local (frequent installer) they both work with the wired input remote. There is 4 wires, two for plus and minus, one for illumination and one rf that actually goes to the stereo. You can get the pos, neg, and illumination of the orange and blue remote from anywhere you find convenenient, but the last wire needs to splice into the IR connection to the stereo.
Bottom line, moomba adapted that (non marine) receiver to accept a wired (marine) remote control through soldering a wired input to the IR input.-Jay
