Fuel Filter was backwards

So we were having similar issues as described in other threads of the boat cutting out when starting or turning.

I took off the back panel and checked out the fuel filter and found out that it was backwards! The filter has an anti-siphon valve on it so that means that the pump was fighting it since it was brand new. I hope the fuel pump hasn't burnt out.

Tomorrow I plan on buying a new fuel pump and putting it on the right way (so that the dirt that is trapped in it backwards doesn't go to the injectors.)

I'm so surprised that the boat pulled well for 5 months! I look forward to tomorrow, as I'm think that the hole shots will be like twice as fast!

That's interesting, did you happen to take any pics before you pulled it out?

I can take a picture for you if you want. The new filter will be necessary in case any dirt gets trapped in the first layers of the filter (will be last layers of the filter when reversed. I don't want that dirt going to the injector.

There is a small arrow on one side that is supposed to point with the flow, and this arrow was on the tube that goes under the tank and to the engine, pointing to the line coming up from the tank.

The one way / anti-siphon valve was on the side of the engine, meaning that sucking gas would cause the valve to close more. This is further evidence by shaking the filter when I took it loose - gas came out of side that was connected to the tank, but not the side connected to the engine.

No, no, no, I was just curious if you documented it in case you had warrenty issues, and if so I would have been curious to see them that's all. I've not looked closely at the fuel delivery system on my boat (all my problems involved burtsing cooling hoses) but the direction of the filter wouldn't have that great of an effect would it. I mean the anti syphon valve is seperate from the filter no? Or if it is part of the filter as I go back and reread your post then how did it even get enough fuel to idle?

We're in pretty constant communication with Atlanta Marine. They are always helpful and made suggestions.

There is an anti siphon valve on the fuel fitting itself, but also an integral valve in the fuel filter. I will try to get some macro pictures for you tomorrow morning. I am really surprised that it ran for 5 months (we've been barefooting, skiing the course, and more) to put 75 hours on it. I'm hoping that the fuel pump will still be good and that the knock sensors on the engine prevented too much low stress. With everything being new it seems as though the pump was able to mostly overcome the resistance from the filter valve.

We also had that Jhose break, right before our tournament last fall. That was fun and we were lucky that we were taking the boat out of the water that day.
