bought a 2000 Outback, but alas, no manual

Contact your dealer, or request one directly from Moomba. We lost ours and ended up having to buy another one from our dealer ($20). It's nice to know what the company recommends for maintenance, etc.

I use the 15W40 Penzoil Longlife in the carb version 99 outback. Unable to find the similar marine version locally. At one point, somebody on the board confirmed with Indmar that this was a reasonable oil to use. 15W40 is noted on the stickers on the motor. ( at low hours, you might have some similar sticker )

The idea of confirming via the manual for your specific engine sounds like good advice. But my 99 Indmar owners manual which only shows injected motors calls for 20W50. So there is a disconnect between the manual and the motor stickers in my case for some unknown reason.

The phone number they say to call in the book is customer service at 901 353 9930 in Memphis ( Millington, TN ). Don't know if it still applies.... I didn't call, just used the 15W40.

I have an 88 Supra, maunal just says to use a "SG" rated oil, any suggestions as to what viscosity/weight oil I should use?

If its the Indmar Assault 350 GM it should require 5 qts with filter change, which should be done at the same time. Rule of thumb is that the filter holds roughly a quart.

But, there are larger-height, larger capacity oil filters, and also smaller ones, that will fit on this engine ( mine has the Penzoil PZ-3 or equivalant ). So, if by chance somebody has put on a different filter, you might need slightly more or less oil to achieve the right level on the dipstick.


Don't know what is appropriate for the Supra. I think the SG rating is a quality or usage rating, not viscosity. The manufacturers viscosity recommendation is probably what you are looking for.

Hey, If you cannot get a manual from your dealer, let me know. I have a 2000 Outback. I can scan my manual and email it to you if you want. I don't have a scanner, but my dad does.
