Default What brand/type of oil to use?

Hey guys I was just wondering what brand and type of oil you use in your boats.
I'm getting ready to do the end of season oil change (If I get the boat running right that is)
The previous owner didn't know what type of oil was used in the boat as he had the Marina do all the maintenance for him.
According to the repair manual it says to use 15W-40 for the 5.7 litre models. I'm going to stick with that, but was wondering what brand of oil to use?
I want to use the Pennzoil 15W-40 Marine oil as thats what it says on the oil cap, but cannot locate any of that where I live.
Have any of you guys used the AMSoil 15W-40 full synthetic marine oil?
It's a bit expensive at almost $9 a quart though.
I have always been an AMSoil fan as I've used it in my motorcycles and waverunner.
If not those 2 brands what else would you recommend?
Also, does it have to be "Marine" oil or can I just use an Automotive grade oil?

    Thanks,
    Aaron

Any 15 -40 Marine Grade will due as per your preference. Each manufacturer has their own "special additive" that makes theirs the best so I would recommend you due a little research on API web sight to find out any industry standards. And if you are not in the mood to go surfing on the web call a neutral party repair facility and ask there honest opinion. Some manufactures jump in bed with certain suppliers like if you scrub my back I'll scrub yours type of thing and recieve a stipend for ex amount of product sold etc. etc. There are some good mid range oils out there but if you feel like shelling out big bucks for synthetic you do change oil less often with man made products but you usually make the change after first service. I ran Royal Purple in my fleet of 75 trucks for years stem to stearn and when I left had service vehicles with well over 400,000 miles on original power and drive trains. Just my 2 cents, do a little research and you will find a suitible oil.

Last Fall I could not find Pennzoil Marine 15W-40 and put in Penzoil 15W-40 for Diesel.. Had no problems. There is very little difference.. Don't know much about AMSOil.
My Wal-Mart actually has Pennz 15W 40 Marine in the Marine section behind fishing.. $2.33 / bottle.

    Good luck

I like the amsoil. We use it on all our race sleds 2 & 4 stroke and all my outboards 2 & 4 stroke. I'm going with that this winter, should make for a trouble free summer. If you use there system they claim almost double intervel between changes, kind of nice come middle of next summer.

Wow I've never heard of Rotella at all... Thats a new name for me and I'm usually pretty good with all the different brands out there.
Is it a Marine oil or all type oil? I'll have to check into it and see if any place around me stocks it.

Rotella is a diesel type, or can be used in diesel engines, that meets ALL the specs of the recommended marine grade oil.
