White smoke
I have a 2002 Outback with a Carb 310hp.
Once in awhile when i start I get white smoke/steam out the exhaust. It only happens on start up and not while running. The temp guage never exceeds 180.
Some times when starting after the engine is hot, It wont start until I advance the throttle, give it a little gas.
Are these oberservations normal or is there something I can do?
THanks for any input.2002 Outback 5.7 carb

We have the carb set-up. Same as yours, sometimes requires a little bit of throttle manipulation on hot restarts. Usually happens when is sits for a while hot before the restart.
Probably its carb getting hot from the engine and getting a bit of vapor lock.
Haven't experienced the white smoke situation.

Cold Start needed when hot
We have a 99 Mobius with Carb 310 HP. I have gotten in the habit of cold starting it when hot becuase it was needing that about half the time. Never spent much time thinking about it. My old Johnson outboard used to do the same thing.
I am not too worried about it. Most ofthe drivers I use are aware of it.
No smoke...
