    Default power to fuel filter

I can't get any power to my fuel filter. If I directly connect an outside source of power to the filter, it hums and the engine starts and runs... but nothing on its own. Is there a breaker or fuse only for the fuel filter? Also, as I switched out a new battery I accidently put it in backwards and had the cables attached opposite where they should have been... I wonder if this contributed to my problem?? Any ideas?

Any ideas? People need to know their limitations and go to a mechanic if they're not sure what they are doing. Your working in an area that has fuel and an ignition source and if any mistake is made your first post may be your last. I believe you are talking about the fuel pump next to the filter and there have been previous posts on the oil pressure switch that may be defective but the reversing of the battery would affect any solid state components unless they have diode protection.
