Default Moomba Makai rope hang up

    hello everyone,

So we just got our new 2022 Makai and its awesome, we love the boat, feel they did a great job with it! This is our first V drive style boat, we came from a 2003 supra launch. Anyways when pulling people and circling back to pick up the rider the rope is constantly getting hung up on the board racks and if not there it winds up getting stuck on the rear hatches at the back? It seems to me maybe if there was a 12 or 24 inch rear additional Bimini option that would keep the rope from dangling and getting stuck as much on the board racks..

I am guessing i am not the only one running into this issue? anybody else find a way around this?

    Mike

Welcome to the party! Congratulations on the new Makai. You know we don't acknowledge you actually got a new boat without seeing some pictures! LOL! But to your issue, yeah, we are pulling the rope out of the board racks frome time to time on our Makai too. Are you referring to wakeboard/ski rope or surf rope. I use the side tow points for surf rope and it makes things easier. I am sure you will receive more comments and suggestions!

The rope gets hung up on both of my boats. It’s pretty common to get the rope hung up on the racks. Haven’t experienced too many issues with it catching on my upholstery but it has happened a few times. Regarding the racks, if you can train your rider to pull the rope tight for a second until the rope clears the rack there will less occurrences of it getting hung up. It needs to be pulled tight as soon as the rope reaches the rider. If they wait until the handle gets to them, they won’t be able to get it off the racks. We always just throw the rope to someone surfing as it is so short, so it doesn’t get caught on the racks.

Do you power turn to pick up your downed rider?

We had problems with hang ups until we learned that power turns were bad form. Running straight after shut down then making a slow arch back to the rider kept the rope taught, the water smoother, and the boat occupants happier.

So we mainly are having issues wakeboarding " longer rope", and yes on the waksurfing, the side tow points would be the way to go, haven't tried them yet, but yeah that seems like it would be the key, and we do not do power turns back to the rider, learned that when we first started years ago. and on the rider pulling the rope, yes an experienced rider, but lately other than me and the wife its been a lot of little kids and newbie's just learning..

i think Moomba might offer a rear Bimini? i went to try and build a new boat just for the heck of it and that option looks like it is one now, was thinking about calling me dealer and see. i am pretty sure that would help keep the rope out of the way.

Nice looking boat. Have you unfolded your canopy yet? If you are tall like me, you will find you hit your head on the front. It's sort of low for a tall guy. If I drive standing up to stretch my legs, my head is all up in it. There is a post on here about registration number placement too. You may want to look through it to see where everyone put theirs on the Moombas.

The rear Bimini is not to use while under power, and towing with it would cause the rope to pull the Bimini down and could hook on the poles. The poles are stout carbon fiber and minimally forgiving.

The WB rope getting caught on the rack is common.

If you racks swivel, put that side rack in the rear facing position, helps a lot.

You will get used to getting you rider with a more gradual approach to miss hooking the rope. Took me awhile to “drive around the board rack”

a larger surf board solved the problem for me, rope catches the surf board and slides all the way down it
