Brown fluid, what is it and can I fix?
First time poster here so I hope I did this correct! We bought a home a few years ago that had a 2002 Mobius LSV convey with the house. The boat is been very well maintained, and we took it in last year for a tune up, pre placement of spark plugs oil filters etc. worked great no issues, yesterday after about 5 min of idling the engine sounded different and then when we opened it up to look brown fluid seems to be leaking from somewhere. I assume this is something I need to take to the mechanic but wanted to check if this has happened to anyone here or if it’s an easy fix I can work through without taking in. Thank you in advance and any help would be greatly appreciated.

That looks like what happens when water and oil try to mix.
You have a crack/leak somewhere that is allowing them to mix and my guess is a head gasket.

It looks like 2 things:
1) Nasty washout water that someone didn't drain.
2) Engine Oil + lake water cocktail - from not draining the water for winterizing
Blown head gaskets most likely. I don't believe 2002 had closed loop cooling. Someone else more familiar with your year could confirm.2015 Moomba Mojo Surf Edition

No closed loop cooling.
More then likely this is head gaskets from not winterizing correctly, because there is technically no oil cooling in the heads, yes there is oil for the valve train but water is the cooling system on them.
Unfortunately if you have brown oil in your engine, and it should look over filled on your dipstick, then you will probably need entire engine rebuild.
Luckily for you with the age of the engine its most likely carbureted, and you can honestly use about any 350sb engine you find, just use a marinized alternator and starter.Last edited by mmandley; 05-31-2022 at 12:10 PM.
