on the plug side. there should be supply voltage when the ignition is on to energize the coils in the alternator. is it a single or two wire plug?

    Default Bad Alternator?

2019 is still under warranty, have dealer drop ship it to you and install it yourself to save the hassle of taking to dealer.

If it is the 230amp, those are $$$.

I don't think you can just unbolt the battery from the alternator and start the boat. I think its circuitry requires the battery and alternator to be connected.

I will say I would replace the alternator, at idle it will put out 14V and at max output of 2000rpm it will put out 14V, the difference is the amps from idle to 2000rpms will increase.

Note - this is a reason if you jump start someone run your car to 2000rpm then have the try to start up this way you are putting out max Amperage.

Glad it is working without too much trouble. Now put it in the water and have some fun!

I would check what that 230 amp alternator would cost to rebuild as a back up.

Probably not a bad idea. Any thoughts on where to go with it? Something I have done locally or send it off?

I personally would find a local shop.

Typically the voltage regulators fail before the windings get damaged. Bearings are probably fine.

Just search for electric motor repair shops. Or call some HVAC companies/electrical contractors and ask about them.

Around here, we have many Automotive alternator and starter repair shops.

Lower amp alternators are likely cheap enough to replace from the auto parts store, but a 230amp is gold.
