Wink Cleaning engine compartment and under the floor? Fix engine paint peeling?

    1. Any advice as to cleaning the ski locker, gas and engine compartment. There is some funkyness going on in there. Would like to just to be nice and clean.
    2. Advice on how to clean where the paint is peeling up on the engine, transmission or V drive? What kind of paint should I replace it with?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I need to do the same at least a little. I’m not overly impressed with Gunk products on some other projects lately. Think I’ll go with Castrol Super Clean this time around.

For the block you may be able to very carefully and lightly pressure wash if you’re not willing to get in with a long skinny brush and just scrub.

Just basic automotive high heat paint to touch up.

And cover anything / everything you don’t want splatters on….
So when is this "old enough to know better" supposed to kick in?

One idea is just throw a little dish soap in the bottom of the hull and when your boat takes on water it swishes around and helps keep it clean.

Obviously that only helps the bottom of the hull stay fresh and not your engine or anything but I would assume that is where the funkyness is coming from water sitting in the bottom.

Now that I think of it I’m pretty sure I have a ballast fitting leaking so my bilge gets a good rinse every time out. At least I’m hoping it’s only a ballast fitting….

Right after posting this I found the thread about the water under the ski locker. That could be some of my issue. Problem is I tore my ACL, MCL and meniscus. I can't do anything about it until 2 months after surgery. So that project will have to wait. Thanks for the information.

I used to put some Simple Green down in the engine bay with water and let is slosh around, scrub as much as i could with some long brushes. Worked great.

I first get all the water I can out of there. Then some Simple Green and a bucket of hot water and a little scrubbing. Drain and let it dry out. The funky smell usually happens 1x per summer.

Somebody (?Starbite?) makes a orange cleaner too. Works and smells good. Bio product so it does not harm the water if you are on lift or just pour it in there and let the bilge do it's stuff. Tried that 1x.

    Dawn dish soap cleans everything.
If it is real bad add a little vinegar to the spray bottle.

Neither will harm the environment but if you add vinegar stay away from the new chill tech fabric.

There is product called Ship Shape specifically designed to clean bilges. Using dish soap will add nitrogen to your lake water which could lead to an unwanted increase in weeds.
