Moomba Craz wont get up to speed

I have recently bought a 2017 moomba craz surf edition with the 400 Raptor motor. Ungraded Stock ballast which I believe is around 2500-3000lbs. When I have 3-4 people in the boat and have the ballast full, I cannot go faster than 12-13mph while wakeboarding. If I put the ballast at 75% full then I can reach 19-20mph. I'd like to make the wake bigger with the full ballast but then have no speed. Is the motor not powerful enough to carry all the weight? I saw he factory video for the boat on youtube and the wakeboarder said it was full ballast, 3 passengers and 500lbs lead and they cruised at 21mph. Can anyone shed any light on this issue?

What is the typical depth of water you ride in?

What size prop do you have?

When slammed with ballast and crew, what rpm are you seeing?

Do you have paddle wheel, gps, or combo speedo?

What additional ballast or type of bags did you or the prior owner put in?

This smells like prop or altitude or both.

Moving some ballast to the bow will help. I assume your crew all rides in the stern.

I boat at about 3200 feet altitude. The prop and ballast are the stock.the water depth is 80-100ft. The speed is gps.

3200 feet is defineatly eating engine power.

Need a number off the prop, several props came stock on your boat. It will be on the hub of the prop.

You can prop down and make it work, it will take away from top speed but nobody cares about top speed in a wake boat.

How many of your crew sits in the bow when you wakeboard?


Odds are your boat came with an ACME 1235 (14.5x14.25)

An ACME 2775 (15x12.5) will significantly improve your pulling power.

Odds are you don’t require ballast 100% full to make a big wakeboard wake.

Try 100 bow 50/50 rear.

My'18 Craz will get on plane similarly loaded at 1000' with an Acme 1235, but just barely. It also takes launch mode (autowake deploys all three tabs up to like 12 or 14 mph) which I'm not sure if you have on your '17. I'm not surprised you cant at 3200'. It does a little better with the factory "surf/altitude" prop (OJ 945 Wakepro v3) but I'd go more aggressive.

All that said, I never wakeboard with that much weight, honestly I use autowake with the AMP set at 60% most of the time and let the boat figure it out. that ends up pretty much full up front and <50% in the rears. No issues getting on plane like that. I only ever try to get on plane fully loaded if we're surfing and need to relocate or take someone to the dock. She' THIRTSTY running on plane with that weight!

I'd be running my OJ945 but the acme has always just been smoother. I've always just LIKED Acme props better..

Not only the weight but that 15x11.5 or 15x12 prop you need is going to run at 5000rpm to run 22mph.

5PPT is all she'll get (PPT = pulls per tank)
