    Default Adding more ballast pumps

I got to thinking yesterday….we have a 17 SA with three pumps. Think I could plumb 3 more into our current system? I’m good with plumbing and decent with electrical stuff. Thoughts?

Short answer, yes. I think the biggest hurdle is going to be having an unused port on the sac/tank for filling/draining.

Maybe I’m under thinking the project. I was thinking I could plumb them in series with the same fill port tube. Maybe not?

You will gain very little if any by doing 2 pumps in series on a single hose.

Need to basically run a second pump and hose to each bag.

The only gain is going to be parallel pumps or higher capacity pumps. With 2 pumps in series, your final flow rate is likely going to be that of the last pump, rather then summed flow rate of the 2 pumps.

Now that I think about it this totally makes sense.

I’ve got done planning to do if I do this. Might try to tackle it in the winter time when I take the bags off.

What about the electric? Can I just splice in-line or will that trip a fuse?

Start up amps on a jabsco puppy pump is around 20 amps. You may need to upgrade breakers.

Perhaps upgrade to a jabsco king pump?

    King 15GPM
    Puppy 9 GPM

Not a bad idea. If I had 3 kings would the breakers still be good or would I need to upgrade?

Hrmmm, maybe kings are only 11 gpm and they would require a 25amp circuit versus a 20amp.

Thanks bro. Looks like I’m back to planning plan A of 6 puppies in parallel.
