    Default Interesting starting after de-winterizing.

    Hey guys.

Had an interesting thing happen on my 07LSV tonight. Winterized with no issues and ran like a champ all last summer.

De-winterized, went to start it, click then dead. Moved my perko switch to off, reset to battery 1....same thing. Reattached all cables, tried battery 2....again. Click then dead.

Let the boat sit for about 5 minutes, tried it again......started. Ran it for about 10 minutes, changed to battery 1, ran but crank was slow.

Battery or starter??. Not overly mechanical so any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Richard.

Just thinking out loud here, but another possibility could be some corrosion on the contacts in the battery switch from sitting all winter. Once you moved the switch back and forth a couple times it cleaned them up and you got power.

If you didn't charge the batteries between taking the cables off, and it cranked, then I would suspect corrosion somewhere too. Either on the switch contacts or battery connections.

Exactly, seems like the only thing different was moving the battery selector switch a couple times. I would do the following:

    - make sure the batteries are charged
    - check that all connections at the battery are tight and corrosion free
    - move the switch back and forth a bunch of times to clean the contacts

That might be all it takes to have a trouble free season....

    Thanks guys.

Appreciate all the feedback. Battery posts look pretty clean but I will move the perko switch back and forth a bunch of times to get it connecting. I am going to check the charge and holding power of the batteries. They were bought is summer of 2017, so I’ll see what kind of power they have.

    Again, thanks.

    Richard.

Update on my issue on start up. The main lead from my perko switch has come right out. Had to take apart, crimp and reinstall. Starts up every turn of the key.

Off to the lake today. Happy day!!
