Default Speakers for 2014 Moomba Mobius LSV

Wondering what anyone would suggest for good speakers for the boat and tower. Right now it is factory and seeing what others are running and how they would rate them. Also any good sites to look at for some good deals.

    Thanks

exile might be a challenge right now due to covid. container ships from china not coming in regularly and they are sold out of quite a bit to the point that MB boats are currently using equipment from a couple of vendors and birdie told me exile is done at MB once they are out of the little bit of gear they have left.

wetsounds is the odds on favorite but I think their stuff is overrated and overpriced.

jl has built quite a name with supra. good stuff but spensive.

kicker and polk used to be the go to back in the early/mid 00's for replacements or upgrades. kicker makes some solid gear at a good price.

Not a rumor, its fact, as MB's are already shipping with JL. However, this is not due to covid. The time it takes to retool as boat builder ramp up for a new model year, points to this. New dash bezels for a new media center had to be designed, approved then sent to production. Combing panels that house speakers, etc. Ball was rolling long before May equipment shortages.

To the OP, a good place to start, is to know what you have, and that includes amp wattage. There can be some degree of "upgrade" with a speaker swap alone, but amp wattage (and amp tune) can also play a factor in the end result.

IIRC, a 2014 would have the Kicker OEM 6.5" with the 1/2 "W" or Hybrid tweeter. While its an overall well built marine speaker, the small tweeter, and its design, are not the best for sound quality.

Does the boat have the 5 channel and 10" woofer, or are the in-boats powered by the head unit? Adding the amp and a woofer would make a HUGE difference in overall sound quality. If there is a factory installed woofer, if needs to have an enclosure behind it. This makes a night and day difference in its performance.

Im partial to the Wet Sounds Recon and Kicker KM654 for a solid mid-lever speaker, or the Wet Sounds Revo for an upper level. Getting a listen to a potential option is important, but dont overlook build characteristics. Some "marine" speakers really cut corners in the build aspect, compared to others. Devil is in the details.

Nope, not as a whole. Examples; JL 8" coaxial tower pod is $1199.99 and does NOT include mounting hardware. The Wet Sounds 8" coaxial tower pod WITH swivel tube clamp is $1099.99. JL M3-650XSGw is $229.99 and the Wet Sounds Recon-6XWW are $199.99. JL M3-10IB is $229.99 and the Wet Sounds Recon-10FA is also $229.99. All of these are comparable components.
