Part of the build process is SC will drop the boat in the water and run it up down the lake. This is before all the final items are added - like badging. I assume there is a checklist of items they perform. I have seen the guys running the new boats down the lake.

I assume they might be are started at the factory before hitting the lake. Not sure of the Indmar procedures once the motors are shipped to SC.

Engine break-in comes up on all the boat forums. Actually all across the board - cars, trucks, boats, race cars, etc. The replies are pretty standard:

    Follow manual to a T . . . .
Modified break-in and drive it like you stole it from day one . . . .
And the "warranty claim" thing always comes up . . . .

Does anyone know of a claim being rejected due to improper break-in? I also assume since the ECM is tracking data, everyone is probably following the manual.

But since i just spent over 100K, I would be following the manual too for those 10+ hours they list.

Every dealer in the damn land runs boats full of ballast inside of the break in period. Everyone of them.

Most of all, likely the one that sold you the boat. I have never heard of a warranty claim being denied for this reason.

Pitch and roll numbers are pretty much the same for all SC boats. 9-9.5° nose up at around 3° of roll plus or minus based on wave appearance. It’s pretty damn easy. 11.2-12 mph.

And smart plate 30 or under based on appearance.

    Have fun!

I would never subscribe to the drive it like you stole it method.

Supra and Indmar gives break in details for a reason.

I also would not buy a demo. Another reason I custom order my boats.

Two of the 3 previous boats I have owned were demo boats and I guarantee they didn't follow the break in at the dealer and I've never had a single issue.

You telling me when Parker Payne or Sean Silveria get a new boat from Supra they are doing a 10-hour break in...No f'ing chance, they are loading them down with full ballast and an extra 1000-1500lbs of lead that day and surfing the s--t out of them.

Break-in is a pain point in every engine centric sport.

My opinion is that it's a good idea. Probably not necessary but it certainly can't hurt.
More important than the break-in IMO is getting an oil change in pretty early. 20ish hours or less if you've been pushing it. Engines wear in, and as soon as that's done you want to get as much of that shit out of the engine as possible.

I've rebuilt lots of engines and have babied some and treated some like garbage, I can't tell a difference but IMO it never hurts to be careful out of the gate. It's a few dollars in oil for peace of mind.
