Wheels tarnished - solution?

Chrome wheels are tarnished. Chrome polish does very little to help. Know a solution? I could try a different brand if chrome polish?

Are they hard chrome, polished aluminum, polished aluminum with clear coat, PVD chrome?

I have tried several things as well to polish mine but after 13 yrs they will not shine up very well. I talked to a company that refinishes wheels and they basically said there isn't much you can do with them. I figure i will just have to replace them at some point.

I’ll narrow it down to Chrome but am unable to distinguish between the two types you mention. Here’s a picture:

Looks like hard chrome that is badly pitted. I doubt it can be restored

The good news is they are fairly cheap to replace.

Wow that was easy!
Shoulda consulted Youtube before I queried this forum.
Youtuber said to use water&dishsoap spray with steel wool.
Result = 100% restored. Just like brand new.
Shout down to Mothers Chrome Polish. Worked my ass off with that stuff twice and it did absolutely nothing.
Before & after pics attached. I was so close to getting new rims.
