    Very good trick! Didn’t think about that. I will test them that way today actually. I do have a meter so I’ll stick that thing on the blue wire as well.

    My 2013 F150 doesn't register any trailer unless it is an electric brake setup. I would bet yours will not register it either. The only thing these trailers do is have the signal from the reverse light signal activate a "lockout" solenoid in the trailer coupler. This prevents fluid from flowing to the brakes on the trailer even when pressure is applied to the surge system. It's a simple "off-on" signal at the solenoid triggered only by power from the reverse light. Therefore the electric brake control integrated into your truck doesn't register there is anything for it to control.
