    Default 2015 Moomba Mondo

I have the opportunity to purchase a 2015 Mondo surf edition with the manual flow surf system with stock ballast. I owned a 2006 Regal I/O and have only wakeboarded in the past, but at 52 years old I think surfing is in my future. I am also looking at a 2017 Mondo with stock ballast and 2.0 system. I am wondering if anyone can tell me if the wake/wave is worth the additional 10k to buy the '17 over the '15?

I would say that any model year Mondo is going to need more ballast than just the stock ballast. On my slightly smaller '13 Outback V, I have 900# sacs in each of the rear lockers and a 650# under the bow seats to go along with the 400# sac in the center - you would likely need at least that if not more.

I would personally not spend an extra $10K as I think you can get a lot of ideas on this forum for getting a nice wave (i.e. addl ballast, some sort of wake shaper like the manual flow, etc.).

    Just my two cents....

spent a chunk of time on a mondo in wisconsin. he had a pretty dialed wave as a listed boat when I moved. iirc it was a '14/'15. personally would not spend the extra cash for the newer one.
and as Mike mentioned, you will need upgraded rear bags and an IBS up front. plan on 1-1.5k in upgraded ballast from the get-go. MLA on here is in your back yard. look him up for your ballast needs. ballast/stereo are what he knows.

nice boats and coming from an I/O you will enjoy it.

I have had almost as many birthdays as you have and when I left wisconsin a few years ago I left my wakeboard there. all I do is surf and love it.

And I agree on the move from wakeboarding to surfing.......I'm just about 56 and I don't think I've been on a wakeboard in 2-3 years - all I do is surf these days.....much easier on pretty much every body part!!

Here are some of the high level changes you will get from 2015->2017

    1) Flow 2.0 Surf Setup with bigger tabs than a 2016.
    2) Autowake
    3) A3 Tower with Surf Sleeves in Bimini(The bimini on
    4) Color Screen with some additional options on display that are customizable.
    5) 2017 has 500 hard tank + 500 lbs IBS plumbed under Bow Seats.(Not sure what the 2015 had up front...but I seem to think no IBS option)
    6) 650 vs 400s in rear lockers...but you will want to upgrade those anyways.
    7) Sliding Rear Seat
    Swim Pad Walk Through Option.

They are identical hulls, so will throw very similar waves...the flow 2.0 works pretty well and is more adjustable than the manual. For me, I would never buy another boat without surf sleeves in the Bimini...but that is a personal preference. I don't use Autowake on my Mondo...but I am sure if I took the time to learn it...I would.

The rest are creature comforts in my opinion; and the boat with some tinkering throws a great wave if willing to give it weight and some learning time on what it needs!

My ‘15 “surf edition” came stock with 500 front hard tank and 500 IBS, plus 650’s in the back. Only addition was 1000’s in the back and it surfed excellent. The manual flow works great but I just bought a Max as I wanted the Autoflow. We have an equal amount of people that surf regular and goofy and swapping back and forth got to be a pain. I’d buy the ‘17.

It's worth the 10k for the 17. Automatic setup VS dicking around with manual Flow 1.0. 2 years newer, so will always be worth more, and all the other improvements mentioned. 2015 still had the Oz tower and Bimini. Trust me, it's a pain in the ass.

I may know of an 18 Mondo with super low hours for sale by owner in Knoxville. Pretty sure $65k could buy it.

I am looking to sell my 17 for a bigger unit, but located up in Canada. I have upgraded all my bags, got the wave pretty dialed if you are interested...cross border can be a bit of a hassle though. Let me know if you are interested and if can find a way to get you more details and pics.

Thanks to everyone for the great input! I went out on a 2019 demo last night, nice! Tomorrow I am heading out to drive the 2017. The dealer dropped price so fingers crossed. If I get it I will post and follow with pics. Thanks again everyone.
