    Default Octane for 450

    Another option

Torco F500010TE Unleaded Fuel Accelerator https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003TQ5QZQ..._dXUoDb97C3A3F

48 oz per 60 gallons will make 89 into 91.

BOOSTane is another option and they make a marine formula.

One negative to most of these boosting products is it turn your plugs and O2 sensors orange. I don’t think it hurts anything but when I used Torco and my plugs turned orange, it was impossible to read the plugs.

What about 2 of these, fill them with 93 and bring them full with you each time?

I actually talked to guys at the motor manufacturer who said that the knock sensors will really prevent any engine damage very quickly by pulling back the timing—but the motor obviously will suffer in terms of performance on 89 octane. But wrecking the motor is not so much of a chief concern; and they did say as long as you could find some data supporting the effect of an octane booster that would be fine to use (like Lucas has—real data).

If tune is set up for 93 octane and you drop into the low octane tables with knock sensors alarming, it will drop 3-5 degrees and 20-30hp

    It’s set up for 91 to 93.

And the Lucas oil product is legit. We will run with that if we use 89.

So here is the age old question. Do you gain anything by running higher octane in the 400 motor? Or is it just a waste of money. I was running 93 in an older boat that I had and a mechanic told me the motor was programmed and tuned for 89 and running 93 was a waste of money. I just run 89 in my new motor, unless we fill up at the marina, which only has 91. I really don’t see any difference.

There is not performance gain in running a higher then necessary octane, only a detriment in running a lower then recommended.

    ^^^^This.

I wish Indmar didn’t lock the PCM’s on the raptors. You could definitely take advantage of 93 octane on the 400 if you could add timing.
