Looking for a recommendation on comp vest

I'm looking for recommendations on a comp vest for surfing. What are you guys wearing?

I had one comp vest and took it back. Some comp vests will not keep you afloat. Just make sure us is USCG approved and it will keep you afloat is my best advice. Personally I like O’Neil vests. I have a Hyperlite now and it is ripping out after one year and the color went from grey to purple. Last one of those I will own.

Comp vests aren't coast guard approved, they provide just enough for you to almost float by design. I wear a O'Neil slasher comp vest. You want it snug fit. Be sure to carry extra coast guard approved vests in case you get stopped.

It takes some getting used to, if you don't semi swim you may drown.. Lol

+1 on the O’Neil slasher comp vest. I’m 220lbs and I can feel the floatation in the water but appreciate more how flexible it is for riding. They do stretch some when wet and over some time.

+2 on the slasher vest. I have two and we use them almost 100% of the time. Occasionally a newbie to surfing/water sports struggles with the Bouyancy(sp?). Also agree they stretch when wet, so go smaller than Normal.

It's down to the Jet Pilot or the Slasher.

Up here we don't need an approved vest to surf as long as there is one available on the boat. Just looking for something more comfy that will give a bit of buoyancy while I get up on the board or wait to be picked up after falling, again!

The key is to lay on the board and paddle like a surfer. Saves your legs.

Personally, I don’t see a point in wearing a comp vest unless you are truly riding at a pro level. If it don’t keep me afloat, I don’t want it. My USCG approved O’Neil is plenty comfortable. Just get a thin neoprene one and you will be good. Just my two cents.

Completely agree. I used to think I wanted to be cool and wear an impact/comp vest, but realized I would rather float than sink. We wakeboard a lot as well. To the OP, I would strongly look at the Ronix Capella or any other of the myriad of pro model CGA vests on the market. They are getting slimmer and slimmer while maintaining a lot of mobility and function. I personally use a Body Glove Bob Soven from a couple years ago. It seams bulky at first, but then I don't even notice I have it on because it is so light.
