Default Setting Up 2000 Outback DD for Wakeboarding

    Hello All!

New to the forum, and Moomba boats. Moved up from a 17' Maxum Runabout, so this was a huge upgrade for me. After learning to get up and get comfortable at speed getting pulled from a ski loop on the back of that, we decided it was time to find a boat with a tower, and stumbled across a killer deal on this 2000 Outback, 5.7 Indmar and a Monster MT2 Tower.

After a few weekends behind it, I'd like to look into making the wake a little cleaner and with some more shape to start trying jumps and things. We don't currently have any ballast in the boat but would look into setups that work best for beginner/intermediate boarders.

This is the wake I get with two people, light gear, and a full tank of gas. Between 18-20mph, with the standard teak wood platform on the rear.

How it was loaded at the time of the picture.

Any tips and opinions are appreciated!

I have a similar boat. The quickest change is to adjust your rope length to the best part of the wake. The next thing would be to remove your back seat and add some ballast bag(s) in that area. There are some others in the forum that have added ballast to the sides of the engine and even in the bow.

Any suggestions on how much to add? I wish I could test out some ballast bags before I bought them because I don't want to get one too big/small for what I want.

In my 2000 LS, I ran a 750 IBS under the front nose cushions (manually filled from pump over the side) and a 800# bag in the rear locker, however, I notice yours doesn't have the rear ski locker... that same bag might fit under the rear seat?

Yeah, I do not have a rear locker, but my whole back bench will come out if needed. I would just lose a lot of seating for my boat. It’s a 20’5 Outback.

The large bag might be a bit much, BUT if you routinely go light on human ballast, the extra weight won't hurt. These 2 are specifically meant to go in the rear with the seat removed.

I had 800# in the extreme rear and it would put the swim deck 4-6" underwater...

Here is a snapshot from a video from this week. 400lbs of buddies on the back bench, ~150 driver, 55lb dog, and our gear. 18-20mph. It definitely cleaned up more. Need to find some bags to test before I start buying them lol
